Job Description Summary
The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Digital Forensics in the College of Science and Technology at the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania seeks a full-time tenure-track Computer Science faculty member at its Bloomsburg location at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to begin in the fall semester of 2023. The position involves teaching undergraduate Computer Science courses for the department’s programs, with a particular need in Software Engineering. Course assignments are based on the needs of the department and reflect the interests and experience of the faculty member, with opportunities to develop new courses in areas of interest. The program website includes a list of courses offered.
The home campus for this position is Bloomsburg with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
About the Department:The Department offers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Computer Science. The Applied Computer Science Degree offers specializations in Web Development, Mobile Applications, and Data Science. The department also offers undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity, along with specializations in Statistics and in Data Science. The department currently includes 35 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members. There are eight full-time tenured or tenure-track Computer Science faculty members and about 250 Computer Science majors.
About the College:Mathematics, Computer Science, and Digital Forensics is one of four departments in the College of Science and Technology at the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. The College offers nationally accredited and regionally distinct programs. Faculty and staff in the College are committed to providing every student a meaningful education with impact and value. The College seeks student-centered educators and scholars to educate students with innovative and pedagogically sound methods and to engage students in and out of the classroom in high-impact educational practices.

Essential Duties

Specific Duties
Duties include advisement of department majors, committee work, and departmental, college, and university service. Continued professional growth through research and other scholarly activities is expected and supported.
The successful candidate will need to complete distance education training programs as made available by the University within two years of hire for the purpose of teaching in a multi-campus environment with remote teaching needs.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Successful applicants will be able to teach a range of Computer Science courses and have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, evidence of scholarly activity, and an ability to work with diverse populations. ABD status in an accredited Computer Science doctoral program is acceptable. Qualified candidates with a doctorate or ABD status in a closely related field will be considered.


Preferred Qualifications
An earned Ph.D. in Computer Science by the start date of the position is preferred. Tenure must be applied for within five years, and will require a completed doctorate along with evidence of effective teaching, continuous scholarly activity, and service.

Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and give an undergraduate-oriented teaching and research presentation as judged by the department faculty..
Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.

Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and criminal background.
Completing this search is contingent upon student enrollment and available funding.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your three background checks are returned to the Human Resource office prior to your hire date.
