Job Title: Assistant Store Manager

Department: Market Center

Reports To: MCI - General Manager

Job Status: Regular Full Time

Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Wage: $23.08 - $28.80, DOE

JOB SUMMARY:

Assists General Manager in a proper and efficient manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable state and federal laws in an effort to maximize store profitability and customer service

Directly supervisors Customer Service Rep’s I & II and Market Center Supervisor.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May staff, schedule, evaluate and train, develop and monitor subordinate personnel.
  • Motivate, encourage, and challenge store cashiers.
  • Promote and resolve customer complaints, in a timely and professional matter.
  • Ensure all merchandise is stocked and displays are attractive, priced correctly and displayed in a safe manner.
  • Supervise, and discipline all store employees according to company polices.
  • Conduct store meetings as needed with employees.
  • Prepare for monthly inventories, organizing and pre counts.
  • Completes video review and video auditing of employee cash handling and reports discrepancies to Retail General Manager.
  • Manage MSDS Sheets.
  • Maintains liquor, cigarette, and tobacco stock, including but not limited to ordering, rotating, visual display, and inventorying of product as necessary.
  • Reconciles daily books, monitors overages and shortages, voids and returns, and reports discrepancies to the Accounting Department and Retail General Manager.
  • May work with the Accounting Department and Retail General Manager in preparing annual budgets and identifying capital expenditure needs.
  • Provides budget variance explanation each month.
  • Assists Retail General Manager with price changes and margin management, and manages store price tags by ensuring proper pricing, stickers, and creates pricing signage.
  • Promotes compliance with policies and procedures and effective personnel performance while practicing positive employee relations.
  • Maintains records and files, including budget/financial, personnel and departmental specific.
  • Maintains security of designated areas and the confidentiality of all relevant information.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation and reporting of department activities and status.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the market and fuel areas.
  • Maintains an awareness of external and internal conditions and trends that impact the department, and take appropriate action.
  • Maintains an awareness of relevant county, state, tribal, and federal government regulations including but not limited to EPA, gaming, health, liquor and tobacco, weights and measures and taxes and takes necessary action to promote compliance.
  • Negotiates with and makes recommendations for agreements with merchandise and service vendors for the Service Station and Vending Programs to achieve maximum sales and service.
  • Maintains and optimizes department material, equipment and resale inventories.
  • Sets a positive leadership example in all areas of the operation.
  • Promotes a safe and secure working environment.
  • Promotes customer service as a priority through effective monitoring, training and coaching.
  • Promotes continual improvement in department performance.
  • Performs duties of subordinate personnel as required.

OTHER DUTIES:

Because of the Market’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

  • Indian Preference Policy applies to this and all positions with the Nooksack Market Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to have, in order to be considered for the position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:

  • Obtain and maintain TIPS for Off-Premises Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Obtain Class A/B UST Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or related field and one (1) year retail store supervisory experience. Or Associates Degree in Business Administration or related field and five (5) years of retail store supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of convenience store management experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITION:

  • Knowledge of MSDS.
  • Ability to work with help desk (Gilbarco, SSCS, Freal, Lottery, etc.).
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to work effectively on all tasks.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills and make change accurately.
  • Ability to operate Drop safe equipment.
  • Ability to operate Lotto equipment.
  • Ability to operate Coinstar equipment.
  • Ability to lead effective departmental meetings.
  • Ability to identify new product lines to bring into the store.
  • Knowledge of cigarette, tobacco and liquor stock inventories.
  • Knowledge of current POS system including entering items into the system.
  • Knowledge of Washington State cigarette, tobacco, and liquor laws.
  • Strong customer service skills.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Must pass criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter.

REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver’s License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe. (Must Provide Driving Abstract at time of hire).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.):

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs over head.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, etc.
  • Sits for long periods of time at a computer.
  • May stand for long periods of time.
  • May work in a noisy, crowded environment.
  • May have to work outside in various conditions.
  • Monitored by surveillance cameras.
  • Works various shifts and days including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Works with various cleaning chemicals.
