We are seeking the *right candidate* to live on site at our historic lodge, and willing to wait to find the right fit! Highland Lodge is run by two badass Inn Keepers who recently bought the house right up the road so they no longer live on site to be the 'On call' person in case of emergency. Formerly, they lived in the two bedroom apartment above the commercial kitchen in the main Farmhouse Lodge building. We are looking to find an assistant inn keeper to help support us in managing the lodge in an overnight fasion as an ' On call ' individual 5-6 nights per week when we are open, but primarily as the am assistant manager to run breakfast from 6am-12 noon, check guests out, manage breakfast service and the baking aspects. This is a 40 hour per week job, 42 weeks per year, pay is a sliding scale based upon work experience and BOH abilities.

About the lodge:

The lodge is located on Lake Caspian where we have our own gorgeous sandy private beach. We are in the Northeast Kingdom which is a hub for all things outdoors: hiking, biking, swimming, boating, but also a foodie destination, boasting some of the best producers and farmers in the country. We live one mile up the road from the best brewery in the world ( that is a fact and not an opinion ) but are within a one hour drive from some of the best breweries in the country. We are about 1.5 hours from the big city ( BURLINGTON, VT ) where we field trip for shopping, dining, and going to see live music! In the Winter months we are on the trail head for the Greensboro XC trail network as well as the 130km of Craftsbury Outdoor Center maintained trail system. The main lodge is ten bedrooms in house ( the lodge has operated since the mid 1950's ) as well as ten gorgeous cottages on site that sleep anywhere from 1-8 persons. Our max capacity caps out at 80 guests overnight. We host small and large weddings in the shoulder months ( June, September, October). In July and August we are completely sold out with a wait list going almost year round. We have a commercial kitchen that helps support our restaurant & bar, open Thursday- Sunday 5-9pm. In the Summer months we host a banging Monday night taco series with a local food truck, live music, and rocking bar for our community. While this is considered a year- round lodge and a full time position, the lodge is closed for 10 weeks per year ( 4 weeks in the Fall before Thanksgiving and 4 weeks in the Spring once the snow starts to melt ). We all take this time to travel freely. So while the annual salary is $35k, that is divided up amongst the 42 weeks we are on payroll, the onsite housing is included as a part of the compensation package. During the wedding seasons we split the tips amongst the staff so there is supplemental income there as well.

About the Job:

- The Assistant Inn Keeper would live on site in the two bedrom apartment and act as the on call point of contact for an agreed upon number of evenings/ week. There is some flexibility on this in the slower times but in the Summer months there is a 5 night minimum. The Assistant Inn Keeper would be responsible for the am breakfast shift 5 days per week ( weekends included ). Generally this shift starts at 6am as the role includes the baking/ prep for the 8am buffet service. There are support staff that arrive at 7am to assist in this role so that assistant manager can shift focus to checking guests out in the office as needed. While this shift is definitely BOH oriented, there is a strong FOH compenent as you will be interacting with the guests. Answering their quetions, making dinner reservations, etc.

The ideal Candidate:

Fun & Friendly! Responsible, Self Motivated, Personable/ Team Oriented/ Strong Guest Service + Interpersonal Skills/ baker/ BOH experience and ability to follow recipes.

2+ years (or 2 + seasons if position was seasonal) of Food & Beverage Management experience in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, preferably in hotels or hospitality.

Previous culinary experience/ Front of House experience (baking experience preferred)

Desire for growth in the organization/ ability to work alongside a large and diverse team.

Knowledge of federal food safety standards: current Food Safety Manager certification is a plus.

Able to consistently interact with a friendly, enthusiastic, positive attitude.
Willingness to assist in all roles to support the operation – Ex: working the line, processing guest transactions, other tasks when needed

Able to demonstrate sound judgement, follow direction, and take decisive, appropriate action

Willingness to learn and embrace company policies, practices and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures

Must have strong organizational skills to execute and prioritize multiple tasks.

We are interviewing candidates this Winter, hoping to find the right fit by the end of March. This person could spend the months of April & May moving in/ familiarizing yourself with the lodge for reopening in June!
