GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The primary responsibility of the Assistant General Manager is to work with the General Manager (GM) and department leadership as appropriate to ensure quality and fidelity of Think Together services, support operations and oversight of the region.
The Assistant General Manager is responsible for ensuring all Think Together policies and procedures are followed, must lead strategically, act intentionally, and work collaboratively across the Think Together platform to ensure organizational success.
In collaboration with the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager supports the strategic leadership and oversight of the regional teams, budget and resource utilization, customer satisfaction and business retention. The Assistant General Manager assuring there is organizational sustainability via regional grant compliance, program quality, customer satisfaction and retention of partners, including schools, school district/charters, parents, and other local stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

LEADERSHIP:

PROGRAM: Assistant General Manager must support quality program implementation:
  • Directly supervises Program Directors to ensure that program implementation and support is of excellent quality and in alignment with the grant requirements, organizational policies and procedures, and needs of our school partners
  • Communicate with school and district administrators as needed to maintain strong working relationships
  • Use the detailed data analysis of student and staff performance, along with researched based tools such as CDE's Quality Standards to: evaluate program implementation; make judgments about the current state of program quality; identify avenues for program enhancement and innovation; inform plans and decisions for program improvement
  • Attend regular governance meetings with school district/charter partners as needed to sustain and ensure customer satisfaction and retention
  • Support the region and the GM to ensure compliance with the California Department of Education requirements for After School Education and Safety Programs, 21st Century Community Learning Center Programs, and any local, state, federal and private funded programs, as required and appropriate
  • Ability to locate, interpret, and apply law, policy, and procedures applicable to the delivery of all services. Participate in appropriate meetings and activities sponsored by key local, state, federal, private agencies to ensure Think Together is actively participating and represented across the system of support
  • Ensure that contractual obligations to school district/charters, partners and other funders are met, as required
  • In collaboration with the General Manager, ensure healthy relationships between Think Together staff and all stakeholders including but not limited to: school, district/charter personnel, partner organizations, and parents
  • Collaborate with school Administrators in addressing staff and/or student behavior problems on an as needed basis utilizing positive behavior interventions to maximize student safety and achieve program goals and objectives
  • Develop, support and mentor Program Directors and/or other staff, as required by the regional structure
  • Visit sites regularly to ensure high-quality program implementation in accordance with Think Together policies and procedures, grant compliance & deliverables and established standards
  • Visit sites and attend partner meetings to develop and coach Program Directors and/or other staff, as required by the regional structure
  • Together with the General Manager ensure program and performance expectations, monitor the end results and hold staff accountable for strengthening both program and performance
  • Support business retention efforts through providing high quality services
  • Utilize data from stakeholder survey to ensure customer satisfaction at all levels
  • Ensure the appropriate maintenance of comprehensive student records and reports as required
Operations: Assistant General Manager must ensure program implementation and grant compliance are met with fidelity:

  • Responsible to assist the GM in the management of day-to-day operations across the region
  • Work collaboratively with the GM to support management of regional budgets, spending plans and reporting anticipated variances and managing spending, overtime and regional expenditures
  • Serves as a liaison between school districts and charters; community-based organizations; colleges and universities; the California Department of Education; and other organizations dealing with the operating policies, rules and procedures for effective program/services implementation, fiscal management across regional teams keeping GM informed of spending and trends across the regional budget
  • Actively partner with and support regional team to ensure staffing demand, requirements and support regional strategies to fill needs
  • Maintain frequent, collaborative and effective communication with Human Resources, including payroll, employee engagement, employee relations matters, disciplinary documentation, and terminations
  • Analyze and synthesize data to diagnose problems, strategize solutions and keep GM informed of potential issues as well as ongoing successes
  • Identifies compliance issues and assists in their resolution; promotes awareness of needs met by program elements
  • Ensure successful and timely regional data, evaluation and data reflection sessions to inform the work of the teams in the region
  • Manage direct reports that will include, but not be limited to Program Directors, as required by the regional structure
  • Ensure compliance with grant deliverables, regulatory requirements and control risk within acceptable limits
  • Participate in social media platforms to promote and increase awareness about Think Together
  • Expand and strengthen Think Together’s work in the expanded learning field.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with all Think Together leaders, teams and actively participate in required meetings
  • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in community events
  • Supervise, train and develop direct reports in line with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the organization
  • Completes supervisory responsibilities in a timely and thorough manner
  • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in student, staff and management matters

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university required.
  • At least 8 years of management experience; track record of effectively leading regional or multiple teams with outcomes-based performance; ability to point to specific examples of having developed strategies for successful business outcomes
  • Leadership positions within the education or expanded learning environment with a minimum of 5 years with up to date knowledge of the expanded learning landscape, education code and market
  • Experience as a site or district/charter administrator a plus
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objective and manage a budget
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, commitment, integrity, positive attitude, strategic thinker, mission-driven and self-directed leader

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to develop relationships, promote the agency at local and regional events and meetings, and attend the organization’s own events and fund-raisers
  • Must be willing to travel to off-site meetings, training, and events
  • Ability to speak or write a language other than English is helpful, but not required
  • Must be willing to relocate to meet the expansion and business needs of the organization
