Position Summary: The Assistant Exhibition Preparator provides support for all technical aspects of art handling regarding installation/de-installation, packing/unpacking, and storage of art objects under the direction of the Chief Preparator. The position assists with the maintenance of museum galleries, art storage, and prep areas. The Assistant Exhibition Preparator oversees all aspects of Campus Art Collection routine cleaning of plexiglass vitrines, framed artwork plexiglass, as well as upkeep of display mounting boards. The position aids the Chief Preparator with exhibition lighting and requires using a scissor lift at heights greater than 12 feet. The Assistant Exhibition Preparator may manage independent contractors and part time temporary art technicians in the absence of the Chief Preparator. Heavy lifting, climbing, and strenuous physical activities are essential functions of the position.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Fine Arts or equivalent experience
• Excellent communication, prioritization, and organizational skills
• Works well as a member of a team
• Must be able to use standard computer programs and office equipment
• Must be able to use a variety of carpentry tools
• Scissor lift experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Art handling experience
• Sketchup or 3-D modeling

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Nerman Museum Exhibitions – Assist with all aspects of museum temporary exhibits and permanent collection installations, including the preparation of pedestals, plinths, mounting boards, mounts, temporary walls and vitrines.
• JCCC Permanent Art Collection – Assists with the installation/de-installation, and maintenance of Collection Focus Areas across the JCCC Campus, including installation of all pedestals, plinths, mounting boards, mounts, and vitrines. Oversees general upkeep and maintenance of plexiglass vitrines, framed surfaces, labels and display mounting boards throughout Collection Focus Areas.
• Exhibition Lighting – Responsible for assisting Chief Preparator light exhibitions by operating a scissor lift in galleries with installed artwork.
• Museum Art Storage/Prep Area – Assists with the receipt of crates, art, museum facilities, and materials.
