Lead Assistant Editor

Full-Time Position

Award-winning documentary film production company in Portland, Oregon, is seeking an Assistant Editor for work on three feature-length documentary films.

• Manage an Avid Offline edit workflow from beginning to end - 3 concurrent documentary projects
• Manage editors and producers operating off of local drives that are synchronized with sync software; Editors are mostly remote
• Manage storage utilization for OCM and Avid transcodes
• Onboard new editors and producers
• Oversee, train, and QC the work of other AEs
• Support editors with Avid troubleshooting, training, implementing best practices
• Deliver cuts to distributors per their uploading instructions (Aspera, Media Silo)
• Prep and deliver final edits to Online & Mix, along with any patches as needed
• Work with Post Supervisor to track network cut deliveries and editor schedules to make sure the AE team can provide necessary coverage.

For Shoots:

• Estimate footage storage needs for upcoming production shoots
• Prep the SSD storage and DIT kit for Production to use in the field
• Offload media after a shoot, back up to LTO

• Avid 2020.12 & 2022.7 – Media Management, Transcoding, Syncing, Grouping, Showbuilds, Outputs, Uprez, Online Prep
• Davinci Resolve – Offline Transcode & Online Conform
• Resilio Sync - Project sync
• YoYotta - LTO backup
• Jump Desktop

Preferred Skills:

• Ability to provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 tech support for Vermilion's network and computers. We have outside vendors to assist with larger project implementation
• Maintain IT equipment inventory, check-in and check-out
• Familiarity with managing SaaS providers (Dropbox, Google Workspace, LastPass, etc)

This job is full-time in Portland, OR; immediate start date with term through 2023. Salary commensurate with established documentary production companies for roles of this nature.

Pay: $325.00 per day

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
