Position: Assistant Director, Philanthropy Boards & Operations

Location: New York, NY or Remote (strong preference to be in regional hub)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is $78,600 - $85,000. This midpoint for the salary grade is $102,000. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience.


Position Description:


Reporting to the Managing Director, Philanthropy Boards & Operations, the Assistant Director will have significant internal and external relationship building, project management, strategy, and implementation responsibilities.

The Philanthropy Boards & Operations team is a highly collaborative team responsible for providing leadership and organizational support to UUSA’s volunteer philanthropy boards, as well as administrative and operational support to UUSA’s individual and institutional philanthropy teams across the country.

The team works directly with Philanthropy Board Chairs and Philanthropy leadership to develop a “best in class” board ecosystem in support of UNICEF USA’s aspiration to deliver $1 Billion annually in impact value for children. The Assistant Director will lead project management for the team with a focus on planning, executing, and building resources for philanthropy board meetings, virtual trainings, and an annual Joint Boards Meeting. This role also partners with the Managing Director and philanthropy staff to identify operational efficiencies and streamline processes across the Division.


Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):


Board Development (70%)

  • Partner with Managing Director, Board Chairs and UUSA Staff to evaluate and streamline philanthropy board processes, creating a coherent and cohesive “best in class” philanthropy boards ecosystem that includes clear processes and expectations for all volunteer leaders, including consistent job descriptions, goals and metrics, terms, onboarding, and off-boarding processes.
  • Create, manage, and maintain digital tools for our philanthropy boards.
  • In partnership with Managing Director and Board membership chairs (as applicable), develop, design, and lead a comprehensive onboarding program for philanthropy board members.
  • In partnership with Managing Director, Board Chairs and UUSA focal points, develop annual board meeting schedule and streamline meeting preparation across all Boards. Convene philanthropy leadership, Global Program Services, and other departments as necessary to consult on content and desired outcomes from meetings, in line with UUSA strategic priorities.
  • In partnership with the Managing Director, Board leadership and Special Events and Stewardship teams, plan and execute annual Board engagement opportunities that connect and inspire board members across the country.
  • Attend Regional and NextGen Boards meetings and support UUSA staff and Board Chairs with board meeting logistics.
  • Collaborate with Major Gifts, Special Events, UNICEF Next Generation, and Stewardship teams to develop ongoing engagement and stewardship opportunities for philanthropy boards.
  • Serve as team focal point in partnering with Philanthropy Data & Insight team to effectively use UUSA fundraising systems including Power BI, BBCRM, Grants Management, and NetSuite systems to evaluate philanthropy board performance and metrics.

Operations (30%)

  • Partner with staff across the Institutional, Individual, Philanthropy Data & Insights and Philanthropy Advancement teams to identify process improvements and efficiencies and streamline Philanthropy operations.
  • Represent the organization at internal and external meetings, events, and conferences that advance the work of UNICEF USA.
  • Manage the Associate, Philanthropy Boards & Operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of experience in a relationship management or project management role
  • Ability to effectively lead internal and external meetings
  • Experience serving on, leading or supporting a volunteer board preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Must be a collaborative team player, possess a strong customer service orientation, and be a consultative problem solver
  • Ability to navigate complex environments and to maintain momentum and perspective even through ambiguity
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously; can generate pragmatic solutions to real or potential problems and recognize and leverage key opportunities
  • Proficient in Trello, PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Word
