The Assistant Director for Upward Bound will work with the Director of TRIO Grant Programs to develop, plan and implement a program of educational services which result in project participants being successfully prepared for and motivated toward post-secondary education.
Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program that serves a target group of 75, 9th through 12th grade students from financially and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds with the goal of increasing high school graduation and post-secondary enrollment.
This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant funding which will continue for 5 years. Once the funds from the grant that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s Degree.
Two (2) years’ experience in working with financially and educationally disadvantaged youth.
Valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Two (2) years’ experience in working with financially and educationally disadvantaged youth.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and community.
Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of economically and/or educationally disadvantaged youth.
Strong organizational skills.
Computer skills that include Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel or similar software.
Ability to relate to diverse populations.
Personal experience in overcoming academic and economic obstacles to success.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the office or classroom to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently remain in standing and stationary position.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, staff, and faculty to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

Work Hours
The work hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, there are some weekend and evening hours to support the program requirements.
