Job Summary:
Provides assistance to the Director of Nursing in the management of the nursing department by coordinating and supervising functions necessary to promote high quality care to the residents.

Essential Functions:
  • Treats all information about residents, their condition, and family as well as personnel matters as confidential information.
  • Complies with established Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures, and maintains established standards and practices.
  • In the absence of the Director of Nursing assumes all duties necessary to maintain the functions of the Nursing Department.
  • Provides back-up as RN House Supervisor as needed.
  • Assists in overseeing, recommending and supervising the development/maintenance of nursing service objectives, standards of nursing practice, nursing procedure manuals, nursing service job descriptions, and nursing service care polices.
  • Assists in Coordinating with the facility Medical Director, resident’s physician, all clinical, psycho-social aspects of resident care.
  • Assists in monitoring procurements of nursing service supplies.
  • Assists in fiscal responsibility for the Nursing Department budget in the area of staffing and ancillary supplies.
  • Assists in providing inter-departmental and outside communications with consultants relating to resident needs and facility functions.
  • Performs other functions as directed by the supervisor
Qualifications:
  • Current and valid RN license in the state performing resident care.
  • Three to Five years of experience in supervision of personnel, preferably in a geriatric long term care facility.
  • Good communication skills with individuals and large groups.
  • Knowledge and ability to work on a computer.
  • Possesses management ability including skills in written and verbal communication, good judgment and reasoning and coaching.
  • Has compassion, understanding and empathy for older persons.
  • Understands management, delegation and motivational concepts.
  • Must have qualities of leadership, initiative, and dependability
Physical Requirements:
This position would include responsibilities of leadership in nursing. Standing and walking distances constantly throughout the campus would be required during the shift in evaluating residents and supporting line staff and respond to emergency needs of the Retirement Community. Ability to lift 30 pounds in assisting co-workers with resident lifts, transfers, etc. several times throughout the shift. Must be able to react quickly and decisively in emergencies and in unexpected behavior of residents.
