Assistant Director, Juvenile Court

SALARY: $40.07 - $50.10 Hourly
$83,345.60 - $104,208.00 Annually

The incumbent provides administrative and professional leadership by assisting the Deputy Court Administrator, Juvenile, in a wide variety of high-level administrative activities across the Juvenile Court including but not limited to planning, developing, organizing, managing, and evaluating all non-judicial programs, services, and operations of the Juvenile Court.

This is an unclassified position that reports to the Deputy Court Administrator, Juvenile. The incumbent performs duties and responsibilities under limited supervision and directs the operations of various administrative court divisions/units.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees a staff that may include division directors, managers, supervisors, and other juvenile court professionals.
  • Ensures that court operations and programs are enforced and compliant with all applicable laws and directives.
  • Assists in short and long-term planning process for all facets of court operations, including the strategic planning process.
  • Assists the Deputy Court Administrator, Juvenile, in the preparation and implementation of court rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Analyzes complex operational data and recommends, implements, and evaluates policy and procedural changes for assigned work units.
  • Provides guidance to division directors and managers on administrative issues and assists in developing and implementing improvements.
  • Serves as liaison, with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), Clerk of the Superior Court, local and state agencies, news media, and the general public when directed.
  • Participates in the development of goals, objectives, and budgets for each functional unit managed.
  • Assists and participates in the preparation of the annual court budget.
  • Monitors compliance with standards, court policies and procedures for assigned areas.
  • Serves as a liaison to other agencies and represents the Court on external committees and boards to gather and provide input for court related matters.
  • May oversee the development of managerial reports, preparation of grants and contracts, and requests for proposals.
  • Assists in overseeing cooperative and collaborative efforts with other courts and justice system entities.
  • Participates in court leadership activities to support court goals, progress and issues that require the court’s attention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master’s Degree in Business, Public or Judicial Administration, or a closely related field, and five years of professional level administrative experience in court management or judicial administration. Or a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public or Judicial Administration, or a closely related field and at least seven years of progressively responsible administrative experience in court management or judicial administration. OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Preference will be given for candidates with Master’s Degree in Business, Public or Judicial Administration, or a closely related field and/or a certification as a Court Executive and/or Fellow of the Institute for Court Management.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

Licenses and Certificates:

A valid driver's License at the time of appointment. Completion of the Pima County Defensive Driving training course is required after appointment.

Physical/Sensory Items:

Typically performs duties in an office environment and may lift materials and/or equipment 20 lbs or less. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed and travel periodically.
