Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of one of the following four (4) qualifications listed below with one (1) year of experience with community agencies and a working knowledge of community services available in Macon County.

1) Registered Nurse (R.N.): An individual licensed as a professional nurse under the Illinois Nursing Act who can provide proof of current registration with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. It is strongly recommended that the R.N. have a Baccalaureate or Master's degree. It is strongly recommended that R.N.s have experience or course work in maternal and child health and in maternal and child nutrition, lactation, nutrition assessment and nutrition education if they will provide nutrition or breastfeeding counseling or

2) Registered Dietitian: An individual who uses the title Registered Dietitian (R.D.) and can provide proof of current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or

3) Nutritionist: a) A nonregistered nutritionist/dietitian who has a Baccalaureate or Master's degree in Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, Community Nutrition, or Public Health Nutrition or b) A registration-eligible dietitian who has received written approval from the Commission on Dietetic Registration to take the Registration Examination, but has not completed it or

4) Home Economist (with an emphasis in nutrition): A graduate of a four-year Baccalaureate degree program in Home Economics with at least 20 semester hour credits in food and nutrition. The Home Economist may act as a Certifying Health Professional (perform WIC certifications, provide nutrition and breastfeeding education and prescribe food packages) only under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, or Registered Nurse (as defined above). It is strongly recommended that the Home Economist have experience or course work in maternal and child nutrition, lactation, nutrition assessment, interviewing and counseling. (This policy regarding the Home Economist applies only to people hired after June 1995.) Registered Nurse must submit proof of 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every license period; copy of license; and copy of CPR/AED card. Registered Dietitian must submit proof of Continuing Education Units every license period and copy of license.

Must have the ability to assist the Director with directing personnel, program development, quality assurance and fiscal practices. Must have attention to detail and the ability to interpret many state rules and regulations. Extensive computer experience required. Must have excellent organization, decision-making, writing and public speaking skills. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to listen and respond to employee concerns; inquiries and concerns from clients, agencies, and/or members of the community. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, physicians, the general public, and other professional personnel. Must have the ability to present ideas and concepts, both orally and in writing, to employees, colleagues and program liaisons. Must have the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple work assignments, projects and manage stress. Must possess the ability to apply sound judgment to make appropriate decisions and resolve problems and/or conflict. Must have the ability to independently facilitate work output and interpret agency policies to staff, as well as professionally direct and coordinate the activities of assigned staff. Must have knowledge of funding sources, grant writing, and fiscal operations. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Must have the ability to work with diverse community groups. Experience with program development and management and supervision of a multi-disciplinary staff preferred. Must have the ability to work flexible hours as needed, including evenings and/or weekends. Must have a dependable vehicle for use during work hours, valid Illinois Driver’s License, and appropriate auto insurance. Must be physically able to get in and out of car many times per day in all types of weather and be able to adapt in a positive manner to various client living conditions (i.e., dirty, cramped). Must be able to carry, pull, and manage a minimum of 30 pounds of equipment daily.

Summary of Job Duties: Assists with supervising daily activities of all Division programs and services. Completes ongoing quality reviews of client files. Assists with training and continuing education of all staff. Attends events, programs, and other meetings as directed. Assists with students/intern’s case assignments and duties. Maintains current knowledge of community resources related to referral needs.
