Assistant Dean for Communications and Marketing (ADCM)

Cornell University’s College of agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is seeking an Assistant Dean for Communications and Marketing (ADCM) who will creatively and strategically promote the pioneering work of the college across local, regional, national, and global communities.
A dynamic, entrepreneurial communications and marketing leader, the ideal candidate will be passionate about advancing CALS’ research, education, and outreach and embrace the power of this work across disciplines to address local and global issues. A strong and visionary leader, the ADCM will ensure alignment with university messaging and communications priorities, helping to enhance and preserve the position of CALS and Cornell as a top-tier research institution and leader in higher education.
Reporting dually to the CALS’ Dean, Ben Houlton, and the Vice President for University Relations, Joel Malina, the ADCM will work closely with college and university leadership on CALS’ strategic communications and marketing priorities that span multiple disciplines within the university and develop and manage communications and marketing strategies that enhance public awareness of CALS scholarly activities, disseminate critical scholarly findings, secure academic reputation, further the diversification and quality of students, faculty, and staff recruitment, and generate philanthropic support.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is made up of 16 Departments, two schools, more than 3400 undergraduate students in over 20+ majors, over 1000 graduate students, 1270 professional staff, and 350 faculty. CALS generates $240 million in research expenditures and the college encompasses more than 500 campuses, facilities, and affiliates all around the Empire State. We are proud of our extensive reach through Cornell Cooperative Extension. Many of our facilities are located on or near Cornell’s main Ithaca, NY, campus, where our undergraduate programs take place. Our next largest location is Cornell AgriTech, our New York state Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, NY which has branch stations on Lake Erie and in the Hudson Valley. The Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station (Cornell AES) encompasses research farms and greenhouses in Ithaca, Freeville, Willsboro, Aurora and Riverhead, NY.
