The Assistant Controller role:

We are looking for an Assistant Controller who gets excited about building something from the ground up in a startup environment and has a background in franchising - either supporting a franchisor or a large-scale franchisee - in order to understand, support, and guide our growth as an emerging franchise brand.

This individual is analytical in nature and well versed in GAAP, has no problem managing monthly accounting processes across multiple business lines, and is also capable of building and navigating through complex financial models and creating tools to help automate processes. They have a relentless drive to accomplish even the most daunting of tasks while maintaining the utmost integrity. This person will be part of the leadership team of a startup experiencing massive growth, so being a self-starter capable of making decisions and articulating the rationale is crucial.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of the Assistant Controller?

  • Assist in developing and assessing the overarching business strategy based on company goals and financial outcomes of both 2ULaundry and LaundroLab
  • Manage all aspects of accounting: financial statements, general ledger management, cost accounting, budgeting, tax compliance, revenue recognition, and reconciliation
  • Execute flawless and on-time monthly closing of all financial reports and models including a historical model, a proforma model, and updating accounting ledgers and financial statements in QBO across multiple businesses.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team with the development of the Monthly Business Review and Board Reporting
  • Work cross-functionally with all department heads to develop and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets to effectively allocate resources based on the business objectives and key results.
  • Coordinate with a team of one contracted bookkeeper, CPA, and General Counsel
  • Manage the current list of vendors to consolidate and simplify expenses for the company
  • Simplify and streamline Franchise Fee issuance in order to simplify the close process
  • Support fundraising and company financing efforts as needed.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Finance and Accounting to implement new finance processes and controls across the entire organization. Examples of this could include but are not limited to the monthly close process, expense reimbursement process, credit card provider analysis, weekly and monthly wholesale invoicing, failed payment collections, payment dispute management, and refund/credit approvals.

What are the minimum qualifications of the Assistant Controller?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • Master's degree or CPA/CFA a plus
  • Has 4-6 years of experience, with an emphasis on Accounting-based roles with increasing analytical responsibility
  • Experience working with a franchise, including 1-3 years of experience in franchise-specific accounting and/or FP&A for either a franchisor or a large-scale franchisee
  • Advanced experience in the use of Google products, Excel, and Quickbooks Online
  • Knowledge of GAAP, financial analysis, and forecasting
