Job Summary
The Drexel Family Digital Archive (DFDA) Project is an online initiative managed by the Drexel University Archives that documents the legacy of Drexel University founder Anthony J. Drexel and his family. The next phase of the project will focus on historically underrepresented groups and experiences. The project will expand the content of the DFDA online exhibit and will explore themes and elements in the history of the Drexel family that have previously been obscured, contributing to improved understanding of this history’s relationship with broader social and cultural developments.
The coordinator will digitize collection materials, conduct historical research, write interpretive text, improve archival description, and conduct outreach to fulfill the project’s goals. The coordinator will also contribute to the Archives’ guidelines for reparative description (redressing the under- or misrepresentation of marginalized groups in archival collection description and metadata).
Essential Functions
- Survey Drexel family-related collections at University Archives, identify areas of overall strength and weakness in the documentation; conduct research in Drexel family collections or related primary or secondary sources to address gaps and misrepresentations; research and provide links and cross references to Drexel family-related content at other special collections institutions
- Select items to add to the DFDA online exhibit; digitize and upload images and documents for inclusion in the online exhibit; add or revise online exhibit text and narrative sections of collection finding aids
- Add or revise name authority records in University Archives databases and subject headings in finding aids and catalog records; publicize the project through presentations and by conducting outreach to the Drexel University community, other institutions, the archival community, and the general public in collaboration with the Libraries’ communications team; contribute to the Archives’ guidelines for reparative description in archival collection guides, online exhibits, and other forms of metadata
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent, Curation - related field
- 1 year experience
- Experience creating metadata for archival or manuscript collections
- Experience conducting historical research with both primary and secondary sources
- Experience with digital asset management systems
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and accessibility in professional practices and work environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with archival metadata standards, including EAD, DACS, and LCSH, with name authorities, and with processing of archival collections
Experience with reparative description
Experience with ArchivesSpace, Omeka.net, and Alma Digital platforms
Physical Demands

Additional Information
This is a temporary, full time non-exempt position with hourly pay, paid on a bi-weekly basis and is not qualified for benefits.
