Position Overview
The Arc Ontario of Canandaigua, NY, a Human Services Agency, is seeking to hire full-time Applied Behavioral Specialist for our Clinical Services program to provide psychological services to individuals served by The Arc Ontario and provide consultation services. This role also assists in staff training and community training in issues pertaining to behavior management, as well as other issues related to developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.

Work Location: Ontario County

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group counseling to persons served by this agency. Works with family members/collaterals to enhance the effectiveness of treatment to the individual
  • Works with individuals and family members in a clinical setting and/or their home, for situations which meet the threshold for our Crisis Intervention supports
  • Provides training to staff in managing difficult behaviors and assists with crisis intervention
  • Meets with Licensed Psychologist as needed to discuss individuals' behaviors, assess data and determine possible revision of approach/Plan methodology
  • Helps to evaluate individuals for their ability to give informed consent for professional medical treatment, to handle benefits, to make restitution for damages and for consenting adult status
  • Provides consultation and in-service training to agency staff and members of the community as required. Participates in training opportunities to enhance, acquire and develop knowledge of developmental disabilities.
  • Submits BSPs to the agency Human Rights Committee for review, discussion and approval. Submits complete BSP packets, with all of the required elements. Attends HRC meeting to discuss the requested restrictions and implements any revisions requested by HRC
  • Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments utilizing both, indirect and direct methods. Develops and maintains written Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) that follow clinical standards. Teach, train, model, prompt and observe, with feedback necessary to reinforce methods and interventions addressed in BSP.

Applied Behavioral Specialist Qualifications:

Per 633.16 Regulations- Level 1

  • Master's degree from a program in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology and have documented training in assessment techniques and BSP development
  • Have at least 5 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities, including the development, implementation and monitoring of BSP and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.

Per 633.16 Regulations- Level 2

  • National Board Certification in behavior analysis (BCBA); and have a Master's degree in behavior analysis, or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology which is approved by OPWDD review,
  • Or have either: a Master's degree in clinical or treatment field in psychology, or a related human services field; or a New York State license in Mental Health Counseling; and have or obtain OPWDD-approved specialized training or experience in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development; and have provided behavioral services for an agency in OPWDD system continuously since December 21, 2012,
  • Or have a Master's degree in a clinical or treatment field in psychology, or a related human services field; and function in the Psychologist I or Psychologist II Civil Service titles of New York State,
  • Or have a Bachelor's degree in a human services field; and have provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD system continuously since December 31, 2012; and Either: is actively working toward a Master's degree in an applied area of psychology, social work, or special education; or completes at least one graduate-level course in an applied health service area of applied psychology, social work, or special education each year.
