The Appliance Technician and Installer plays a crucial role in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various appliances and propane equipment. To ensure success as a Service Technician, one should have sound mechanical knowledge, be able work in confined spaces for an extended period, have exceptional communication skills, and a passion for customer service. Ultimately, a top-class Service Technician provides expert installation services and dedicated support to all customers.


This position will support our Pico Propane and Fuels location in Boerne, TX.


Essential Functions:

  • Travels to customer homes or place of business to perform assigned service task
  • Installs tanks and/or appliances
  • Suggests areas where equipment should be set up – site surveys
  • Troubleshoots problems with existing equipment to include leak checks
  • Maintains general maintenance of equipment including service truck, crane, and all other service tools used for assigned service task
  • Completes and submits proper work order documentation
  • Cleans up after the job is complete
  • Provides customers with verbal and written operating instructions for new equipment
  • Completes all other duties as assigned


Skills/Abilities:

  • Working mechanical knowledge, including the use of tools and test equipment
  • Electronic trouble shooting
  • HVAC Technician and/or Construction background preferred
  • General plumbing knowledge preferred
  • Proven work experience as a licensed service technician
  • Advanced knowledge of propane (LP) systems preferred but not required
  • Willingness to learn necessary skills for position development
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and complete repairs while on site
  • Customer service oriented
  • Willingness to work with office staff to close and complete assigned service tasks
  • Certified crane operator preferred
  • Proficient in the current Microsoft Office Suite


Education, Certification, Licenses Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class A or B CDL with Hazmat and Tankers endorsements (Preferred not required)
  • Texas Railroad Commission (TXRRC) installation certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record


Physical, Mental, and Behavioral Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to heavy weights of 10 to 100 lbs. for approximately 90% of the work shift.
  • Ability to regularly climb in and out of a commercial motor vehicle, multiple times per work shift
  • Good hand eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and visual acuity to operate equipment is required, including at night
  • Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms
  • Must be able to speak and hear
  • Position is subject to pre-hire DOT medical certification requirements and drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as a physical abilities test performed by a company provider
  • Must pass pre-employment screening and background check
  • Position may require working additional hours as needed
  • Work is normally performed outside where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes and gases is common. airborne particles
