Summary:

Entry-level sales and operations role responsible for customer engagement, driving incremental sales, capturing new customer business and providing operational support for the Ames stores within a specific market. The SAR learns and executes sales and marketing strategies as well as operational guidelines and processes. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: making face to face sales calls, managing an assigned customer base within Ames Tools CRM system prospecting and opening new accounts, opening and closing stores, managing POS transactions, and other operational functions.

Responsibilities:

Sales –70% of time

  • Grow existing client base and solicit new business, search out all possible channels of distribution, and maintain strong relationships with existing accounts.
  • Help determine pricing schedules for quotes, promotions, and negotiations.
  • Meet weekly, monthly, and annual to discuss and partner with Store Managers in area, District Manager, and Regional Sale Manager on initiatives for the area. Such as sales quotas through the successful implementation of sales and marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Actively prospect, qualify, and meet with new clients.
  • Consultative selling within a market territory.
  • Perform cost-benefit analysis to existing/potential customers to meet their need
  • Visit job sites and contractor offices frequently to network and establish sales/service relationships.
  • Build a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Increase rentals of Ames Tools by coordinating training opportunities with commercial and residential drywall contractors.
  • Preparing weekly and monthly sales reports and updates relative to territory activity.
  • Actively manage interactions with existing as well as potential customers using Ames Tools CRM system maintaining a well-developed pipeline.
  • Gather & report competitive activity

Store Operations – 30% of time

  • Responsible for assisting and backing up the Store Manager in the overall operation of an Ames company retail store; including open and close
  • Merchandising products and organizing showroom & rear warehouse for safe & effective material handling.
  • Reporting inventory discrepancies or customer issues to store manager
  • Generate revenue growth through effective marketing of the Ames line of automatic taping tools, parts & equipment as well as promotion of add-on sales with merchandise assortment
  • Daily functions may include: greeting customers, processing rental & sales transactions, customer service, order processing, merchandising, inventory & tool audits, collections, housekeeping, data base development, cash handling/bank deposits & loss prevention.
  • Additional functions may include boxing & shipping tools to repair center & receiving tool & merchandise shipments into inventory.
  • Basic demonstration & effective presentation of Ames tools & products
  • Maintenance of rental tools & contractor equipment
  • Assist with planning & execution of open house customer events
  • Submittal of quality tags, expense reports & prototype tool testing questionnaires in a timely manner

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from college or university and 1-2 years of sales experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of the sales process and dynamics, proven ability to meet and exceed sales quota.
  • Knowledge of the construction, building, or drywall industry preferred.
  • Ability to manage sales budgets and participate in setting sales goals.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks & to manage workload using own initiative.
  • Capacity to inspire confidence and gain credibility with both clients and co-workers.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Extensive travel within the region is required.
  • Must have valid driver's license with acceptable MVR.

Competencies:

Outstanding skills in customer service, suggestive selling skills, financial acumen, understanding of and ability to sell importance of service in the tool rental equation, inventory control experience, problem solving skills (both technical & financial) , good communications skills, both written and verbal, attention to detail, negotiation and ability to build relationships with repeat customers.

Travel Required: 50% or travel time expected for the position according to business needs. Will travel between stores and throughout market.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-2 years related experience. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred or equivalent experience. Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience in the construction or retail industries is preferred.

Additional Eligibility: additional requirements such as certifications, industry-specific experience and the experience working with certain equipment.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Bilingual English/Spanish skills strongly preferred.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have valid driver’s license.

Other skills and abilities: Computer Proficiency required. Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel and basic database operations, prior experience with a POS system helpful.

Other Qualifications:

Must have strong operations, sales and customer service focus.
