Job Description
Position is specialized work involving the application of semi-skilled tasks to the operation of light to medium sized equipment in the maintenance and operation of the regional airport.

This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Typical Duties
Typical Duties:

  • Possess or be able to obtain, a good working knowledge of General Aviation regulations and safety procedures as related to the operation of an airport.
  • Mow grass, controls weeds, landscape, and maintain areas around facilities, runways and fields using a tractor and shredder. Able to work with

herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.

  • Operate small equipment such as: forklift, bucket truck, runway sweeper, snowplow, and asphalt repair equipment to maintain and repair runways,

taxiways, and aircraft parking aprons.

  • Perform janitorial duties in and around the Airport Terminal Building. This includes the operation of a buffer, mopping, window washing, and the general

upkeep of the restrooms and facility.

  • Communicate with pilots and FAA Flight Service. Both by radio and telephone.
  • Maintain and perform minor electrical, plumbing, sewer, and structural repairs to airport terminal, hangars, and related buildings.
  • Provide airport security. Inspect and repair any breaches in the perimeter fence or gates. Monitor traffic on airside as it relates to the airport rules &

regulations.

  • Maintains airfield lighting including runway and taxiway lights and terminal beacon replacing lamps and making minor electrical repairs. Monitoring proper function of NAVAID.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles used in the performance of duties.
  • Become familiar with City and Federal rules and regulations for proper airside operations.
  • Know and understand emergency procedures related to aircraft accidents/incidents.
  • Gain a working knowledge to provide information to the public concerning services available at the airport.
  • Maintain a water system in compliance with state regulations. Gain knowledge and experience towards certification.
  • Able to interact well with general public, pilots, and co-workers.• Become familiar with and comply with the City's Safety Manual.
  • Duties will include full aircraft line service: to include fueling, towing, and greeting pilots and crew members. (Will provide training within the first six months hired)

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED

Licenses and Certificates:
Equivalent of higher of a New Mexico Class “D” driver’s license.
Must have Line Service Fuel Technician Certificate (or able to obtain within 6 months).
Must have certification in the operation of a small water system in accordance with state regulations (or be able to obtain within two years).
FAA. AAE certification preferred.
Training in Wildlife Hazard Management preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
FAA/FAR rules and regulations as set for the for 14CFR part 139. Basic knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines. Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge.

Skills in:
Safe operation of small equipment: hand and power tools and lawn care equipment.

Ability to:
Perform functions with minimal supervision: understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations, establish and maintain effective andcooperative working relationships with others.

Physical Requirements
Moderately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions
Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions including working at night in the dark. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required
