ESA is looking to hire an Air Quality and Noise Analyst with 2 or more years of relevant experience and will be supporting a wide range of both public and private clients. A preference will be given to individuals with expertise in using leading computing technology to solve complex air quality problems and a natural curiosity that leads to innovative solutions. The candidate should embrace scientific programming approaches, be familiar with geographic information systems, and have a background in meteorology, environmental engineering/science, or physics.

Who We Are

We are a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm who values diversity and inclusion and celebrate the differences that make each of us unique. Our culture is built on mutual respect, recognizing that our variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives leads to better solutions, which fosters our continued success for our employee-owners and clients.

Who You Are

You are an effective team member who is versed in establishing existing environmental noise conditions and applicable codes and policies, and analyzing noise impacts from land use development plans, including noise and vibration from stationary noise sources and mobile noise sources. You are experienced with air quality, greenhouse gas and energy analyses, emissions modeling, and knowledge of traffic impact assessments.

You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering/science; or you have a related degree and directly relevant qualifications. You have 2 to 7 years of experience in environmental consulting or a closely related field.

Successful candidates will have experience with SEPA/NEPA impact assessment, and experience using air quality models such as AERMOD, CALPUFF, MOVES, and AERSCREEN. Position also requires familiarity with other regulations and standards, and familiarity with SEPA Guidelines. Experience in data center air and noise permitting, CALPUFF modeling, WRF post-processing, transportation impact analyses, and spatial analyses in ArcGIS or CAD is a plus.

You have experience in the field performing noise monitoring and analyzing monitoring data. You are familiar with noise and vibration metrics, noise and vibration propagation models and guidance of Caltrans, as well as Federal Transit Administration. You are also familiar with interpreting local city and county codes and general plans with respect to noise and vibration standards and restrictions.

You have excellent technical writing, time/budget management, organizational capabilities, and strong problem-solving skills. You have the ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to help deliver projects on time and within budget in a fast-paced work environment.

What You Will Do for ESA

You will support the preparation of air quality, GHG and energy analyses under SEPA, NEPA, and CEQA as well as stand-alone studies and air permitting.

You will conduct field monitoring of noise levels, predict noise and vibration levels using available propagation models for stationery and noise sources. You will perform technical studies such as air quality and greenhouse gas analyses, health risk assessments, emissions inventories, and air quality dispersion models. You can also assist in air permitting projects including New Source Review, PSD, and Title V projects.

You will consistently demonstrate your solid writing skills and attentive listening skills. You will assist with preparing draft scopes of work and budgets, including providing technical input, contributing to proposal writing, identifying opportunities, and engaging with proposal/interview teams.

You will demonstrate a basic understanding of project management principles and practices and aid in the development of environmental compliance and planning documents in accordance with applicable guidelines and requirements, while delivering assignments within budget and on schedule.

You may serve as a deputy project manager or task manager on basic or moderately complex projects, helping to prepare and manage complex environmental analyses and coordinating with key team members, including senior staff, subconsultants, and clients. Familiarity with SEPA and NEPA is desirable. You will produce technical work and written products that are clear, concise, and well supported.

You will thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines while working on a team or independently.

The position is for any of our Pacific Northwest offices (Seattle or Portland).
