The PowerSecure Air Permitting and Compliance Engineer/Specialist position is responsible for administering programs specifically related to engine-generators that ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements. The program is involved in engine-generator permitting and/or compliance in over 30 states/cities/air districts with varying rules and regulations and is only focused on air permitting and compliance. This is not an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) position. Location: A flexible work location can be considered; however, this is not a 100% remote position. There will be an expectation to travel as necessary for training and meetings.

Major job responsibilities include monitoring compliance status of both in process permitting projects and existing permits; developing compliance plans to address challenges related to compliance for various facilities; calculating air emissions for a variety of fuel-burning sources including new energy generating technologies; interpreting regulations related to engine-generators and providing guidance on air permitting requirements throughout the U.S. and Canada to support various business functions; assessing the compliance risks, cost, and schedule associated with potential projects; and interfacing with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies across the U.S. and Canada, and preparing, reviewing and submitting air permit applications and various environmental compliance reports related to engine-generators for both owned and customer assets including a Title V facility. The successful candidate must have experience managing permit and regulatory compliance of engine-generators in many states/regions with differing obligations. In addition, the candidate must be capable of managing and prioritizing a large number of projects in a fast-paced environment including managing technical consultants and ensuring the environmental scope remains within budget.

Minimum Qualifications (Please Read Carefully!)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or other relevant scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience in the air permitting and compliance field with emphasis on engine-generator regulatory and permit compliance
  • Prior experience in industrial, manufacturing, or energy industries or environmental consulting for those industries is highly preferred
  • Ability to accurately determine ongoing permit compliance requirements based on air permits and the issuing authority’s regulations
  • Familiarity with any of the following a plus: East Texas New Source Review (NSR) permitting, California air district air permitting, and California Air Resources Board (CARB) Statewide Portable Equipment Registration Program (PERP)
  • Possess the ability to read and correctly interpret federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations
  • Must be able to write, complete, and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies with limited guidance
  • Experience working with multiple internal and external parties to complete applications and submit to agencies in a timely manner
