Job description
Midwest Republican Senator seeks an Agriculture Legislative Assistant to join their Washington, D.C. office.
The Ag LA will be responsible for monitoring the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies as well as covering the following issues areas: environment and EPA, food security and nutrition, trade, and Interior and national parks. The Ag LA will also work with stakeholders, farmers, and commodity groups from the state.
Other duties include preparing written and verbal briefs, reviewing legislation and spearheading conservation and agriculture legislation initiatives, staffing and advising the Senator when pertinent, and working extensively on the farm bill funding process.
Candidates should possess a proactive approach to legislative initiatives and be able to work under tight deadlines. They should also be prompt, organized and detail oriented, display strong interpersonal skills, and possess excellent written and verbal communication abilities. This is not an entry level position. The most qualified applicants will have relevant experience and background.
