Job Description
The Agricultural Research Worker, under supervision, supports research farm by performing farm work and the protection of crops.
Responsibilities:
-Mechanics - maintain and repair vehicles, tractors, implements, tools and etc.
-Field work - tractor driving for land preparation, assist in planting, harvesting, irrigation and various other duties as needed for plot research. Herbicide and insecticide applications as needed
-Shop work - welding, equipment maintenance, building maintenance, and modification of equipment and tools as necessary
  • Carpentry, mowing, electrical work, metal work, irrigation repair, building and ground maintenance
-Record keeping - daily and monthly fuel records, weather data, vehicle maintenance and data entry
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Operate agency vehicles to perform agency duties of taking care of business with Texas Tech, USDA and any other agencies or organizations that we work with. Assist in delivery and pick-up of vehicles needing repair. Able to drive to and from field to work, deliver supplies, equipment, and/or other workers. Ability to drive to emergency services if anyone on team is in need of medical attention. Occasional trips to other Research Center locations for businesses as needed such as Halfway, Lamesa AG CARES, and Pecos.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good computer skills. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to conduct research.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related experience. Experience in Row Crop Farming.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
  • Non-Commercial Pesticide applicators license (required within 2 months)
  • Other certifications/licenses as needed

Other Requirements:
  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of agricultural field research or laboratory work.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
