Aerial Communications Lineman – Charleston, WV

Pillar Innovations is on the lookout for a full-time Aerial Communications Lineman for our Charleston, WV office. The Aerial Communications Lineman will be responsible for stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, and stranding. This individual must be able to maintain and repair overhead fiber lines. This position will require proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting. This position requires work to be performed in the Power Space, and previous experience is preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

· Responsible for customer premise and outside plant installations, including framing, mounting, pulling, and grounding

· Build fiber optic infrastructure inside electrical substations and other electrical facilities

· Build bays, fiber distribution panels, inner-ducts, jumper pathways and other network elements needed for the installing of fiber optic equipment and patch-cords

· Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment

· Provide emergency restoration services and line recovery

· Provide splice closure hanging and lowering services for splicing crews as needed

· Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment

· Support new business development and customer service by being available and responsive to internal and external customers and for new business inquiries

· Provide detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record-keeping, billing and inventory

· Answer fiber optic related questions from customers and other departments

· Other duties as Assigned

Preferred Job Qualifications:

· Valid Driver’s License is required

· Experience with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, cable puller, pole truck, digging equipment, and reel-stands

· Familiar with standards and best practices for premise entry and electronic equipment installation

· Understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks

· Working knowledge of fiber design for OSP (outside plant)

· Must be comfortable working at elevated heights and confined spaces

· Ability to work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals

· Ability to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations, evaluating problems and implementing the best solutions

· Ability to differentiate color codes, as well as read and understand manufacturer’s manuals for operating and repairing of electronic equipment and components

· Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism among co-workers and customers

· Experience with Microsoft Software, such as Word and Excel

· Must be dependable; trustworthy; and possess a positive and productive attitude

· Willing and able to work a flexible field and shop schedule, travel, overnight and out-of-town stay, occasional night-shifts and after hour calls for service and repair

· Willingness to undergo a thorough background and drug screening process is required

· Work indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditions

· Be safety and customer-focused, without exception

· Wear proper safety equipment depending on customer and Pillar Innovation’s safety standards
