DEFINITION:
An Advanced Unlicensed Assistant performs in an assistive role to licensed nurses in acute care settings. The AUA performs selected advanced skills, legal and ethical aspects of healthcare in addition to the basic skills traditionally performed by the nursing assistant.
EDUCATION:
Completion of an Advanced Unlicensed Assistant Program- As required by the Certification Board of Oklahoma.
An AUA must complete a 200-hour training program that is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or equivalent training. An AUA will be certified by the Board after successful completion of a written and a skills examination.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE):
Current Basic Life Support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Advanced Unlicensed Assistant - As required by the Certification Board of Oklahoma.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Advanced Unlicensed Assistant certification
Experience in hospital setting as a Nurse Aide or Advanced Unlicensed Assistant
