Position Summary:

The Physician provides clinical care for the hospital consistent with the mission, vision, values, and plan for professional services of the hospital. The Physician will participate in treatment teams, ensure timely and accurate documentation, and provide clinical direction in admissions and overall patient care, including potential outpatient services. Participation in a rotation schedule and on-call duties may be required.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical / Technical Skills (40% of performance review)

  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of medical records
  • Screens and approves admissions and prohibits the admission of any patient who cannot be adequately and appropriately treated by the SUN resources.
  • Observes clinical programs, consults with and directs nursing and Program Directors to implement clinical strategies for individual patients and units program policies.
  • Responds to internal medical and psychiatric emergencies as well as selected inquiries, consultations, referrals and complaints regarding patient care.
  • Provides in-service education and training to staff when possible
  • Participates in the physician on-call schedule.
  • Is familiar with all Professional Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations in order to property interpret them as required.
  • Complete psychiatric evaluation on new patient admissions.
  • Provide attending physician services to assigned patients
  • Conduct patient rounds.
  • Conduct treatment team meetings for assigned patients.
  • Document treatment in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory standards.
  • Perform utilization review activities with insurance carriers.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with patient family members and guardians.
  • Participates in committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Integrity (15% of performance review)

  • Supports and demonstrates fiscal responsibility through supply usage, ordering of supplies, and conservation of facility resources.
  • Completes required trainings within defined time periods, as established by job description, policies, or hospital leadership
  • Exemplifies professionalism through good attendance and positive attitude, at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information, following HIPAA and other privacy laws.
  • Ensures proper documentation in all position activities, following federal and state guidelines.

Education

  • Required: Graduate of an approved medical school. Satisfactory completion of an approved psychiatry residency training program. Fellowship training in geriatric psychiatry preferred but not required. Current unencumbered M.D. or D.O. in state of employment.
  • Preferred: Board certified or documentation of admissibility for board certification in psychiatry.
  • Maintains education and development appropriate for position.


Experience

  • Required: Three (3) years post graduate degree practice experience.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in inpatient behavioral health.
