Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for supporting Project Clean Slate attorneys at Project Clean Slate, the City of Detroit’s program to expunge criminal records for Detroit residents. The work ranges from ordering court records, submitting check requests for records, following up with courts regarding records previously ordered, and processing records upon receipt.
Duties Include:
- Attorney support, including communication with clients and court staff.
- Ordering certified court records and arranging for payment of same, including submitting check requests and paying for records online.
- Following up with courts regarding records previously ordered.
- Processing certified court records upon receipt.
- Providing notary services
EDUCATION
- For all Administrative Assistants, it is a requirement to have completed High School graduation or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
EXPERIENCE
1-3 years of experience as a court clerk, or legal assistant/paralegal.
EQUIVALENCY
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
- Oral Interview: PASS / FAIL
- Excellent organizational skills are necessary
- Must be able to multi-task
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to engage in respectful, appropriate communications with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences
- Willingness to be on site 5 days per week
- Customer Advocacy - understanding customer needs to maintain and improve processes.
- Communication - effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Passion - must be self-motivated, have initiative, and have a positive personality.
- Change Leadership - ability to deal well with changes and setbacks.
- Program Specialties - specific experience in law related fields is required.
- Advanced knowledge of Smartsheet
- Familiarity with court processes
- Experience working in a high-volume law office/organization
- Notary (preferred)
- Work involves office and field activities.
