Work Schedule

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (1530-1930)

Friday (1700-2100)

Work every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday (1530-1930), with Monday off before the weekend worked and the Monday off after the weekend worked.

The schedule/hours are flexible based on scheduled activities and trips per needs of the residents and Activities Department.

JOB DETAILS:

• Starting Hourly Pay: $17.84
• Multiple pay increases over your first 2.5 years of service, with an end salary of $19.15 per hour for first shift employment. This does not include overtime opportunities!

• OPERS retirement - The employee contributes 10% of their salary towards their retirement. The employer contributes an amount equal to 14% of the employee’s salary.

The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for those veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and special care for veterans with Memory Care needs.

The Home opened in 1888 to care for veterans of the Civil War and has been in continuous operation since. We pride ourselves in providing superior care to Ohio's veterans.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assisting higher-level activity therapists in implementation of activity therapy
• Monitoring residents in activity therapy and recreational activities
• Provide environment that promotes resident socialization and interaction
• Escort and/or transport residents to and from activities
• Provide assitance to volunteers transporting residents
• Document resident's progress
• Attend staff meetings
• Performs any additional job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge of addition/subtraction; departmental & agency rules, guidelines & procedures pertaining to activity therapy*; safety practices pertaining to activity therapy*. Ability to carry out simple instructions; recognize unusual or threatening conditions & take appropriate action; read short sentences with concrete vocabulary; complete routine forms; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; demonstrate physical fitness to lift 50-100 lbs. (*)Developed after employment.

Unless otherwise required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases after completing probation and following successful annual performance evaluations.
