Senior Manager – Technical Accounting

Primary Focus

• Accounting Policies and Procedures

Technical Accounting

• Tax Accounting and Compliance
• Financial Reporting

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Financial Reporting:

• Assist Assistant Controller with technical accounting guidance in the preparation of the audited financial statements and related footnote disclosures
• Review quarterly financial statements to lenders and related “Net Income to Adjusted EBITDA” bridge and leverage calculations
• Review related Board Deck materials
• Review statutory financial statements for European entities

Technical Accounting:

• Own technical accounting research and analysis related to complex transactions and other arrangements. Assessment would include completion of technical accounting memos and analyses to review with the Corporate Controller and Chief Financial Officer. More complex accounting matters may include:
• Debt
• Hedging
• Segment and Reporting unit justification
• Stock based comp accounting matters
• Pension
• Annual goodwill impairment testing – ASC 350
• Business combinations – ASC 805
• Lease accounting – ASC 842
• Revenue recognition – ASC 606 and 326
• Train Finance and Accounting teams on new pronouncements and impact on the operations, if any
• Lead all accounting research efforts
• Ownership of purchase accounting end to end process and resulting accounting treatment. Primary contact interfacing with our valuation specialists. Work closely with the VP – Mergers and Acquisitions throughout the acquisition process. Some involvement in the due diligence process with a keen focus on the balance sheet and, in particular, inventory valuation.

Financial Reporting Controls:

• Own accounting policies and procedures including the overhaul of current policies and procedures followed by the rollout of an awareness/education campaign. Provide visibility to the policies through a monthly “Accounting Things You Should Know” newsletter
• Develop process for a monthly reconciliation of local to US GAAP ledgers for our international subsidiaries. In addition, final review of annual local statutory audits with the goal of reducing audit fees and adjustments
• Owner and reviewer of quarterly certification questionnaires. Update and modify as required

Tax:

• Work with the Company’s third-party tax provision service provider to ensure timely completion of the tax provision accounting treatment. Ensure timely submission of complete and accurate domestic and foreign tax inputs for provision purposes
• Management of the annual tax compliance (tax return) data requests from our third party tax advisors/return preparer
• Fixed asset tax ledgers require considerable attention
• Act in the capacity of liaison between tax provision provider (RSM) and tax compliance provider (EY)
• Ensure timely and accurate calculation and processing of the quarterly tax payments
• Develop a NOL utilization tracking mechanism

Other:

• Support various aspects of the yearend audit including periodic reviews with external auditors to ensure agreement of accounting treatment of complex transactions
• Maintain the template/playbook for accounting for business combinations
• Participation in the periodic Accounting Operations Review across the company’s 9 business segments
• Other special projects as required

Success in the Role:

• . Interface with external auditors on complex transactions to ensure concurrence with proposed treatment.Establishing self as the “go to” contact for accounting research and advice
• Ensuring that foundation for tax accounting and reporting is maintained and enhanced to unsure a smooth year-end provision and subsequent tax return preparation and filing.
• Overhaul and update outdated key accounting policies and procedures including but not limited to:
• Inventory
• Accounts Receivable
• Warranty
• Deliver well documented and timely business combination and purchase accounting transaction treatment.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

• 5-7 years of Big 4 public accounting experience including some exposure to/working knowledge of tax accounting and manufacturing
• CPA, a must
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP including business combinations and lease accounting
• Exposure to PCAOB audit requirements a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to work in cross functional teams
• Roll up one’s sleeve type of mentality/approach to addressing issues/technical responses
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Deadline driven with keen attention to details
• Independent and resourceful
• Exposure to TM1 and SAP systems a plus (via audit engagements), however, not required
• Strong systems aptitude
