Job Description
The Financial Services Office at Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking a dedicated individual to fill a full-time Accounting Assistant II position. This position is integral to supporting the operations of the Institute. The successful candidate’s key responsibility is assuring purchasing documents, expense reports, and P-card verifications are processed in accordance with Board of Regents, State, and granting authority rules and regulations. This position will be located at DRI’s Reno, NV campus.
Position Duties (Includes but not limited to)
  • Process accounts payable invoices for supplier invoice requests, utilities, subrecipient invoices, and purchase orders
  • Examine invoice documentation for appropriateness and verify account coding.
  • Review procurement card verification and expense and travel transactions for appropriate supporting documents and compliance with policies.
  • Communicate with divisions for any required information and approval.
  • Provide customer service related to questions and issues.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of general office experience, accounting experience, or related coursework.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound independent judgement and handle multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and apply policies unique to procurement in a scientific research enterprise.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem resolution skills.
  • Beginner to Intermediate Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook abilities.
Preferred Qualifications (optional)
Greater consideration will be given to those who possess one or more of the following skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience using Workday.
Physical Requirements
This position is considered sedentary but may occasionally require performing light physical tasks such as exerting up to 10lbs of force, lifting or carrying objects of 10 lbs., or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve waking or standing for brief periods of time.
Conditions of Employment
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
  • Technologist positions have a 6-month probationary period where your job performance will be reviewed at 3 months and then 6 months, at which time you may be taken off probation with satisfactory reviews. Unsatisfactory reviews during the first 6 months may result in termination.
Compensation Grade
This is a DRI Technologist Grade 31, position with a minimum starting base salary of $43,292; candidates will be hired at the level that is comparable to their experience, skills, and abilities.
DRI offers a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance (Flexible spending and health savings account options available); PERS 15.5% retirement match, 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of sick leave accrued per month, 11 paid holidays, and educational benefits for employee and dependents. Additionally, there is no state income tax or social security deduction. This position is eligible for relocation assistance. This position also has fully remote, hybrid, or in-person options available.
