POSITION SUMMARY

The Accountant I/II contributes to the Accounting Team based in our Denver office and supports both the financial reporting and tax functions. This position is primarily responsible for supporting monthly close and financial reporting processes and assisting in the preparation of state, federal and local tax filings. The Accountant I/II applies basic accounting principles and concepts to perform duties and works under close supervision reporting to the Manager – Financial Reporting and indirectly to the Director – Tax.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the monthly close process by creating journal entries, preparing accounting reconciliations and rolling forward monthly and quarterly files
  • Support the financial reporting process by performing financial statement tie-outs and gathering support and inputs needed by the team
  • Prepare schedules that present revenues and expenses and well as costs that are non-recurring (one-time in nature) in support of our FP&A activities
  • Support interim and annual audits by gathering control support, obtaining certification signatures, updating process narratives and obtaining required documents for our external auditors (PBC requests)
  • Support the Director-Tax with monthly sales and use tax research and filings
  • Support the Director-Tax by maintaining fixed assets using fixed asset software (SAGE) and processes
  • Support the Director-Tax by gathering recurring inputs required for tax compliance
  • Prepare payment requests for quarterly tax estimates and other business needs
  • Coordinate recurring meetings for tax provision reviews, disclosure committee and audit related meetings
  • Support vendor change maintenance process
  • Help to maintain accounting related systems as needed

  • Census reporting support
  • Support the Director-Tax by rolling forward tax workpapers and tying out tax returns
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support the success of the department and company

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Business, Tax or Finance or equivalent relevant experience
  • No experience required for level I - 3 years’ experience in accounting for level II

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Previous experience in Oil and Gas Exploration & Production
  • Experience in auditing

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, Tax or Finance or equivalent relevant experience
