The Office of Controller is seeking an experienced accountant. The accountant can meet tight deadlines and perform a multitude of accounting activities including but not limited to general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. This position also serves as a primary contact for high engagement campus areas. The accountant is responsible for ensuring that all day-to-day financial activities are conducted in accordance with OU policies and procedures by ensuring fiscal controls are maintained effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs routine professional accounting duties requiring limited assistance
  • Manage all cash receipts and related banking transactions
  • Assists with annual audit preparation and assists auditors with necessary information
  • Prepares audit schedules in support of both internal and external audits
  • Manages financial duties with the Universitys Advancement and Facilities departments
  • Oversees annual 1099 and 1098-T process for Vendors and Students
  • Assists in reviewing and maintaining general ledger statements and accounts
  • Implement internal control procedures while streamlining processes, reducing inefficiencies, and integrating best practices
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual end processes and reconciliations
  • Conducts and creates financial data analysis and metrics
  • Develops and recommends value add initiatives or opportunities
  • Provides suggestions for value-add initiatives and opportunities
  • Maintains fixed asset inventories including acquisitions and disposals of assets
  • Communicates and enforces accounting and financial policies, practices and procedures within the Office of Controller and other University areas
  • Ability to meet deadlines while providing a strong degree of accuracy
  • Assist the Controller with special projects as needed

Qualifications
Bachelors degree, 3+ years experience in accounting, finance, or related field. Plus, Not-Profit or Higher Ed experience preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP Accounting and advanced knowledge of MS Excel required. Knowledge of SAGE accounting system preferred.

  • Strong communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel required

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient with all Microsoft Office Applications, Experience with Student Information Systems is preferred (Ellucian Colleague). Public Accounting Audit, Non-Profit Accounting, and Internal Audit experience are a plus.
