Job Summary

The Accountant applies GAAP in performing account reconciliations, analyzing financial transactions, preparing journal entries and preparing financial reports. The Accountant utilizes their experience to handle accounting issues and reconciliations. This role supports initiatives and process improvements and is responsible for maintaining consistency in GAAP reporting along with supporting audit requirements and SOX compliance. Further, the Accountant partners with FP&A to ensure reporting consistency and department alignment, including ensuring planning aligns with accounting policy and practices.

Essential Duties

  • Performs monthly financial close activities, including journal entries
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and analyze income statement accounts as assigned
  • Analyzes expense accounts, developing a clear understanding of drivers and key performance indicators, ensuring consistency and accuracy
  • Prepares balance sheet and income statement flux variance analyses monthly for management reporting and quarterly for 10Q reporting
  • Supports SOX compliance relating to assigned areas of the business
  • Supports forecasting specific OPEX accounts in concert with Manager and FP&A partners
  • Supports preparation of monthly OPEX reporting for management
  • Prepares audit PBC requests; develop responses to auditor questions and other inquiries
  • Assists in documenting internal processes and controls, particularly for changes including creating/updating desktop procedures
  • Supports implementing process improvements as appropriate
  • Assists and supports cross functional projects as necessary
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager’s discretion

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • BS in Accounting or a related field

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  • CPA or MBA beneficial

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting
  • Experience in a Fortune 1000 size company (public traded) with a strict close process and/or public accounting experience preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent theoretical and practical grasp of GAAP
  • Understanding of accounting processes and ERP systems
  • Experience in SOX control execution/documentation desirable
  • Effective communication - both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Takes initiative to follow up on pending issues and solve problems
  • Ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced continually changing business and work environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
