TITLE OF POSITION:
Accountant Assistant


QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a BA/BS Accounting degree or four years of equivalent education and/or experience working in public or private Accounting. Must pass KBI, DCF child & adult abuse registry, motor vehicle screen, and background checks. Must have reliable and insured transportation.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of principles of modified cash basis accounting and adherence to GASB (Government Accounting Standards Board).
  • Ability to communicate well in writing and verbally. Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; able to read and interpret written information. Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to use computer to enter, process and retrieve information as well as write routine accurate reports, detailed financial reports, and correspondence.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain cohesive working relationships with coworkers and work well in group problem solving situations.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks to meet strict deadlines while maintaining quality of work.
  • Respond to occasional work demands that extend beyond the usual workday.


NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK
: Regular full-time position


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversight of the accounting cycle- Accounting and Billing Operations
    • Maintenance of the general ledger and journal entries.
    • Perform monthly account reconciliations and program allocations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
    • Debit, credit and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and databases, using specialized accounting software.
    • Compile statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to expenditures, accounts payables, profits, and losses
    • Code documents according to company procedures
    • Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files, filing, processing paperwork, maintain schedules, and other tasks as requested.


  • Administrative Support to the Senior Accountant
    • Assist with compilation and analysis of monthly financial statements, prepare journal entries for management review, prepare bank and account reconciliations monthly.
    • Assist with tracking and billing of related party transactions.


  • Program Development and Operations
    • Attend trainings and meetings to learn of service needs, opportunities, regulations, and best practices.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for continued growth of department and agency.


  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.
