Maricopa Community Colleges’ Controllers Office is seeking two experienced Accountants who work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy!

These opportunities will demonstrate expertise in a variety of accounting practices: ensuring compliance with Federal, State, Local Government and other Sponsor administrative guidelines and regulations, performing specialized governmental accounting tasks in relation to executed contracts and agreements, applicable statutes, and agency regulations, which include fiscal oversight, reporting, and compliance review for restricted funds. These roles are highly productive and functioning members of the business services division that manage work with technical knowledge and demonstrate high-level critical thinking skills for work in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions


25% - Manages post-award activity, including account creation; regulatory and compliance monitoring; payroll cost allocations and effort reporting; grant projections and cost transfers; and reconciles grant activity in line with published monthly, quarterly and annual period close processes. Researches and interprets compliance issues for state and federal grant programs.

25% - Provides analytical and fiscal support for activities related to restricted funds. Allocates, authorizes, monitors and controls expenses consistent with award funding. Monitors for deficits and ensures remedial steps are implemented as appropriate.

25% - Regularly communicates with Project Directors and/or grants staff regarding funding portfolio and expense activity. Consults with, trains, and advises other District departments and College staff on recording accounting transactions and maintaining fiscal reports.

15% - Prepares analytical accounting schedules, projections, reports, and materials for various internal and external agencies and administrators. Responds to inquiries from auditors, federal, state and local agencies and effectively communicates complex financial information to employees, administrators, auditors, the general public and granting agencies.

10% - Collaborates with others to review, recommend and implement modifications to accounting systems and procedures in order to streamline grant, accounting, budget and fiscal processes and improve controls. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, auditing, business administration, or governmental accounting and two (2) years of experience that includes the application of GAAP theory and practice, experience interpreting and applying regulatory compliance to accounting transactions and reporting, and use of computerized accounting systems.

OR

Associates Degree and four (4) years of experience that includes the application of GAAP theory and practice, experience interpreting and applying regulatory compliance to accounting transactions and reporting, and use of computerized accounting systems

OR

High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of experience that includes the application of GAAP theory and practice, experience interpreting and applying regulatory compliance to accounting transactions and reporting, and use of computerized accounting systems.

Desired Qualifications


A. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.

B. Two (2) or more years of experience in accounting or equivalent experience managing grants, including processing complex financial transactions, ensuring compliance with legal or contractual requirements, recordkeeping and preparation of monthly, quarterly and/ or annual reporting.

C. Demonstrated ability to proactively apply knowledge, think independently, take initiative to solve problems, and skillfully interpret regulations, laws, and guidelines.

D. Ability to prioritize and self-direct, analyze situations, and meet multiple deadlines with minimal direction and oversight.

E. Ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy making sound, independent decisions in a timely manner using a high level of judgment, including experience and proficiency with developing and utilizing spreadsheets and database software to retrieve data for reporting and data manipulation purposes.

F. Experience in time management applying organizational skills, attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills.

G. Demonstrated proficiency with integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial, accounting, and reporting systems and tools used in a higher education setting, preferably with PeopleSoft.

H. Advanced level PC skills with demonstrated knowledge, experience, and proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.

I. Ability to provide a high level of customer service and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with customers and peers.

Special Working Conditions


May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.

May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.

Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense.

May be required to work evenings and weekends.
