Summary

The Chester County Library has a full-time opening for an Account Clerk II. This position is an intermediate level fiscal and accounting support position within the Chester County Library System (CCLS). This position performs processing and maintenance of financial transactions and records to ensure that programs and services are effectively and efficiently provided. This position will perform a combination of tasks including calculating, posting and verifying financial data for use in accounting records.

The successful candidate for this position will hold at a minimum a high school diploma or GED, six months to one year of job-related experience, and experience working in Microsoft Office. An associate’s degree in accounting or a related field, along with previous accounting office experience in the areas of accounts payable, cash reporting, and payroll is preferred. A strong attention to detail, customer service and interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, basic math skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality is required.

A criminal background check is required.

Essential Duties

  • Compile and sort documents, such as invoices and checks.
  • Substantiate business transactions.
  • Prepare vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records, and review for accuracy.
  • Provide clerical support (typing, filing, copying, etc.).
  • Prepare monthly production and billing reports.
  • Maintain inter-departmental job jackets and files.
  • Audit invoices against purchase orders and research discrepancies.
  • Investigate payment problems.
  • Reconcile report discrepancies.
  • Input data into the PeopleSoft Financial system according to company procedures.
  • Receptionist duties may be required (answer phones and direct inquiries).
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Six months to one year of job-related experience and/or training.
  • One year of general office experience (typing, clerical, filing, copying, etc.).
  • Basic skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
  • Ability to use office machines (fax, copier, calculator, etc.).
  • Integrity and honesty.
  • Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to maintain a positive public image for the department and County

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • Intermediate-level accounting and bookkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Familiar with reception desk functions.
