William Paterson University invites application for the full-time position of Academic Advisor in the Division of Enrollment Management, Department of WP Online Student Success Services.


Reporting to the Director of WP Online Student Success Services, the Academic Advisor supports online learners while integrating and fostering an online environment. The position serves as an Academic Advisor to the WP Online population from acceptance to degree completion by providing cohesive services to support students, with respect to advisement, student finance, and academic support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Maintains a substantial caseload of WP Online Undergraduate students. Serves as an academic advisor from acceptance to graduation.
  • Meets and collaboratively engages with students to advise them 0n matters pertaining to academic curricula, requirements and majors, and facilitates academic progression toward degree completion.
  • Responds timely to student questions, emails, and phone calls, with a helpful attitude and correct information. Takes an active role to resolve student problems. Acts as a liaison between students and faculty to facilitate communication and address issues as they arise.
  • Tracks students' academic progress and out-reach to those in various categories of academic jeopardy/failure, responding to students' inquires and making referrals.
  • Support new students' onboarding and success services.
  • Works collaboratively with key Enrollment Management departments to connect and facilitate students' smooth matriculation as well as acclimation to WP Online including but not limited to Undergraduate Admissions; Registrar; Financial Aid; and Student Enrollment Services.
  • Participates in weekly strategic meetings in person with Academic Affairs' staff to resolve student road blocks, promote student success, and support continual program development.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) or more years of academic advising or related student affairs experience in an educational setting.
  • Ability to meet flexible work schedule requirements that include evenings and weekend hours in accordance with departmental needs.
  • Ability to work effectively in an online virtual setting using common tools such as Zoom and Teams.

  • Able to listen without bias to consider multiple and diverse viewpoints.
