The Maintenance Worker I is responsible for ensuring B-Metro facilities, revenue and non-revenue vehicles are aesthetically pleasing to the general public. The Maintenance Worker I assists with minor carpentry repairs and grounds upkeep of all B-Metro facilities. Performs routine landscaping maintenance such as trimming trees, hedges, bushes, mowing lawns and other related tasks as necessary utilizing safety precautions. The employee works according to set procedures under the supervision of the Maintenance Worker II/Crew Leader and strictly adheres to all applicable state and local laws, regulations, safety rules, departmental policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Safely operates tools and equipment in all types of weather, or conditions. The job may include morning, evening, weekend, holiday, split, or other work schedules.
Maintains facilities, power hand tools and equipment in a clean and neat appearance.
Thoroughly inspects and performs daily equipment and tool inspections; reporting mechanical defects, needed repairs and damage upon daily inspections.
Performs landscaping maintenance; such as trimming trees, edging, mowing, picking up litter, assisting with sprinkler problems, etc.
Operate a variety of power hand tools and equipment, such as sweeper, buffer, lawnmower, weed eater, blower, etc.
Maintains buildings and structures following direction from the supervisor and/or crew-leader. This might include, but not limited to, drywall repair, painting, installation of fixtures, curb painting, striping of buses lanes. It also involves washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks and restock disposables (e.g. soap, toilet tissue).
Performs general cleaning of facilities, administrative offices; mopping, sweeping, buffing, picking up litter, dusting, vacuuming, window/door cleaning, etc.
Performs detail cleaning and sanitizing of B-Metro fleet, buses, vans and administrative vehicles.
Reports hazardous and dangerous conditions in and around the facility, including incidents/accidents immediately.
Communicates professionally and responsibly.
Is able to be a work in groups, and is a good team player.
Has physical stamina and dexterity.
Ability to read technical manuals and product instructions.
Performs related tasks as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Requires High School diploma, or GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a minimum of 6 months of work related experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES:
Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver"s license, or possess the ability to obtain a TXDL as required by State Law (no later than 30 days from job offer and acceptance).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The City of Brownsville requires all employees to successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol examination and a Background Check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount of energy frequently to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, climbing ladders, squatting/kneeling, stooping, reaching, twisting/bending, jumping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Work is primarily performed outside with exposure to dangerous tools, equipment, machinery, inclement weather conductions, noise and fumes. This position is subjected to emergency call back if required.
