ARTS AND STEM INFLUENCERS WANTED!!! The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South is seeking experts in the STEM and arts fields to inspire our youth afterschool to create and explore! POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering high-quality content within the Club afterschool programs. The Specialist is advanced in mastery of the skills and concepts within their discipline and able to translate their content into engaging, hands-on projects and activities for youth members ages 8 to 18. Specialists will have a demonstrated mastery of their content through a combination of formal education and lived experiences. Desirable content areas include, but are not limited to, fine arts, digital literacy, STEM and engineering and general sciences. Experience working with youth or in a classroom setting is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Youth Development

· Design afterschool programs and content around specific specialty areas that will be embedded into an existing afterschool program.

· Plan and schedule activities based on the abilities and interest of members.

· Write lesson plans that will engage members and foster and enhance their skill development.

· Demonstrate appropriate use of equipment, proper techniques in activity participation, and articulate expected learning and achievement for satisfactory completion of activities.

· Provide supervision of members participating in afterschool programming, in accordance with all Club safety policies.

· Resolve issues of interpersonal, behavioral, and administrative nature; administer disciplinary action in accordance with Club standards.

· Provide feedback to members and Club Leadership regarding member progress and concerns; identify and communicate areas for improvement.

  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to Club management in areas of program participation growth, member satisfaction, and retention of members.

Health & Safety

· Monitor participation to ensure safety rules and requirements are followed.

· Maintain awareness of potential health and safety issues, identify hazards, and take appropriate action to resolve.

· Assume other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • At least 2 years of content-related education and skill building in STEM, Arts or related discipline required.
  • Experience working with youth in a classroom setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion, enthusiasm and achievement for content through prior work experience, a portfolio, etc.
  • Ability to interact effectively with youth and adult peers on a range of issues.
  • Certified, or ability to be certified, within first 30 days of hire in CPR, First Aid, AED, Child Abuse Prevention.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands of this position is to have the ability to lift up to 50lbs, walk and hike several miles daily, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with physical disabilities to perform essential functions of this position.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
