Job description
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements all components of the Youth Development Program including, but not limited to, Youth Ambassadors Program, After School Program, Teen Program.
- Develops age-appropriate individual and group activities that promote positive youth development, encourage healthy lifestyle choices, prevent alcohol and substance abuse, and reduce risk behaviors.
- Recruits, trains and supports Native youth and other community volunteers to play an active role in the planning and implementation of Youth Development Program activities.
- Works with Nation staff, volunteers, and other community volunteers to plan and implement social, cultural, and educational programs and activities for youth.
- Works with schools, businesses, and community agencies to develop and improve programs and activities that address the social, cultural, educational, and recreational needs of Native American youth.
- Assists in the evaluation of Nation Programs and recommends ways to increase youth participation or increase the effectiveness.
- Prepares and manages the annual Youth Development Program budget, under the direction of the Education Programs Senior Manager.
- Prepares reports and other documents required by the Education Department and/or the Nation regarding Youth Development Program activities.
- Serves on Nation and community committees to further community relations and to improve coordination of youth programs and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Human Services or related field.
- One to two years experience in youth development, counseling or related area.
- Understanding of alcoholism and substance abuse.
- Knowledge of community health and wellness resources.
- Training or experience in Leadership development preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, Native American history, culture and traditions, and how that knowledge can enhance the growth and development of Native youth.
- Valid driver’s license required.
