Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements all components of the Youth Development Program including, but not limited to, Youth Ambassadors Program, After School Program, Teen Program.
  • Develops age-appropriate individual and group activities that promote positive youth development, encourage healthy lifestyle choices, prevent alcohol and substance abuse, and reduce risk behaviors.
  • Recruits, trains and supports Native youth and other community volunteers to play an active role in the planning and implementation of Youth Development Program activities.
  • Works with Nation staff, volunteers, and other community volunteers to plan and implement social, cultural, and educational programs and activities for youth.
  • Works with schools, businesses, and community agencies to develop and improve programs and activities that address the social, cultural, educational, and recreational needs of Native American youth.
  • Assists in the evaluation of Nation Programs and recommends ways to increase youth participation or increase the effectiveness.
  • Prepares and manages the annual Youth Development Program budget, under the direction of the Education Programs Senior Manager.
  • Prepares reports and other documents required by the Education Department and/or the Nation regarding Youth Development Program activities.
  • Serves on Nation and community committees to further community relations and to improve coordination of youth programs and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Human Services or related field.
  • One to two years experience in youth development, counseling or related area.
  • Understanding of alcoholism and substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of community health and wellness resources.
  • Training or experience in Leadership development preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, Native American history, culture and traditions, and how that knowledge can enhance the growth and development of Native youth.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
