Action Staffing Solutions is seeking experienced and compassionate counselors for Youth Services facilities throughout the state of Colorado.

Position Summary:
In this position you will provide clinical services to youth in facilities that experience complex mental health, trauma, substance abuse and other related issues. Those who are successful in this position are experienced in addressing criminogenic risk factors in the adolescent population as well as family interventions and are skilled in the use of a strength-based perspective, systems theory and trauma informed care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. If the counselor is unlicensed, some duties and responsibilities will be altered or require supervision of a licensed behavioral health specialist.

  • Thorough assessment of the youth’s treatment needs by reviewing main and medical files and making contacts as appropriate
  • Collaborate and coordinate treatment needs with client manager and assessment services
  • Interview the youth to ensure that assessment data is reliable, that they are engaged in a supportive and educative manner, that confidentiality is maximized, and that problematic symptoms and behaviors are thoroughly evaluated and handled in a sensitive and safe manner
  • Provide oversight to the treatment plans and identify goals and measurable objectives, interventions and those responsible for providing them, frequency, and the youth’s responsibilities
  • A multi-disciplinary integrated and comprehensive approach will be applied to treatment planning involving the youth and family members, as well as professionals utilizing best practice strength-based approach
  • Treatment planning will be cognizant of gender, cultural, religious, or spiritual and sexual identity issues to affect behavior change and reduction of symptoms in the adolescent and family guiding transition planning and services to aid in successful reintegration into the community
  • Assessment of safety and intervention/monitoring plans for suicidal youth
  • Maintain a caseload and conduct individual, group, and family psychotherapy sessions using evidence-based treatment theories and curriculum in complex mental health treatment for adolescents
  • Provide psychotherapy in a manner that is consistent with the youth’s ability, considering any necessary modification needed as a result of trauma, substance abuse, brain injury and mental health disorders
  • Consult with supervisors about treatment issues, problems, expectation, and changes in behavior for youth and families
  • Document the youth’s response to specific interventions toward meeting the objectives and goals of the treatment plan. Treatment will incorporate and address the youth’s risk/needs and protective factors and how criminal conduct, sex offense specific, substance abuse and mental health issues are related
  • Documents summary of progress in monthly treatment plans for youth on caseload. Documents all assessments, sessions, court reports, transition plans, community passes and staffing sessions in a timely manner as indicated in policy.
  • Supports agency services of cognitive behavioral based interventions, social learning theory, and motivational interviewing
  • Consults and collaborate with the medical team and psychiatrist regarding psychotropic medication to use in treatment
  • Collaborate with client manager and assist in developing wrap-around transition and aftercare services for youth nearing parole
  • Collaborate with educational/vocational systems to ensure appropriate academic services are provided
  • All treatment services will be conducted in accordance with DORA standards and agency policy in order to mitigate risk and improve overall health
  • Completion of required training as assigned
  • Report all incidents, accidents, or potential hazards in accordance with established policies
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
License, Certification, Education:
  • Current registration with DORA and active, unencumbered Colorado license as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Current Colorado active, unencumbered registration with DORA as a Registered Psychotherapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Candidate, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, Licensed Social Worker Candidate or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate may be accepted as an unlicensed counselor position with adjusted/supervised responsibilities.
  • BLS/CPR certification is required
  • Successful completion of a Master’s degree program in a social work or related field accredited by Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP), Council of Social Work Education (CSWE), American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT or COAMFTE) or American Psychological Association (APA)
Experience: Twelve months experience in a patient care setting, training or education in a clinical setting can supplement up to six months of this experience. Previous experience working with incarcerated populations, youth, sex offenders and severe trauma is preferred.

Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must complete the onboarding and hiring process including but not limited to application(s), documents, competency testing, background investigation(s), fingerprinting, and drug screening
  • Backgrounds must be clear of any felony convictions, sexual offenses and free of a history of domestic violence
  • Certifications and Licenses including a current valid driver’s license
  • Must have excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to assess situations to make independent, policy compliant decisions
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to serve the population with empathy, while staying objective and assertive. Must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds
