POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Initiatives and consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Y Readers Operations Director will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of out-of-school time (afterschool and summer) programming at assigned locations. The Y Readers Operations Director will supervise staff and volunteers, providing support and oversight to ensure programs meet target outcomes and adhere to fidelity and quality standards. The Operations Director will also be responsible for managing a portfolio of administrative tasks and special projects for the Y Readers program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • PROGRAM OPERATIONS - Oversee daily operations at assigned Y Readers program locations to ensure that the Y Readers model is implemented to fidelity and quality, and sites are achieving target outcomes. Provide support to Site Directors and Assistant Site Directors to complete required duties and ensure deadlines are met.
  • SUPERVISION - Perform all supervisory functions for assigned staff, including, but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, training, timekeeping, evaluation and coaching.
  • STAFF DEVELOPMENT - Provide ongoing professional development, support and coaching to assigned staff. Develop, organize and facilitate leadership meetings and staff training related to programming, curriculum and association standards.
  • COLLABORATION - Work in a collaborative capacity with YMCA departments and partner schools to develop, innovate, and support programs and initiatives.
  • SAFETY AND RISK - Work with association risk department to ensure program sites and staff meet all required safety standards. Risk management duties include, but are not limited to, conducting regular safety audits, working collaboratively with staff and school personnel to plan for and address areas of risk, and tracking completion of training requirements for assigned staff.
  • OBSERVATION - Conduct observations of literacy instruction and enrichment areas to ensure quality and fidelity markers are met. Use observational data to drive programmatic improvement cycles and determine professional development needs.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Provide project management for assigned Youth Development initiatives and events.
  • DATA - Provide oversight and technical support to ensure data is collected and reported in a timely and accurate manner.
  • STUDENT ENGAGEMENT - Provide planning and technical support to site staff to ensure program enrollment and retention goals are met. Facilitate student recruitment events in collaboration with program staff and school personnel. Work with Site Directors and families to develop intervention and accommodation plans to support individual student needs.
  • FAMILY ENGAGEMENT - Develop family communications and materials. Plan and facilitate family engagement events in collaboration with site staff and school personnel. Respond to family inquiries and concerns.
  • VOLUNTEERS - Work with Association volunteer department to plan, facilitate and evaluate volunteer experiences for assigned programs.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES - Provide administrative support to assigned programs and initiatives, including but not limited to, organizing schedules and calendars, coordinating field trips and events, purchasing materials, and inputting data.
  • OTHER - Assist in other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field required
  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • 5 years youth programming or project management experience
  • Interest in children and working with under resourced populations
  • Must exhibit integrity, professionalism and emotional maturity
  • Must be attentive to detail
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and work under pressure of accuracy and deadlines
  • Must have excellent oral, written communication, report development and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently, using discretion and problem solving skills
  • Ability to train and lead program staff and volunteers
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified K-5 teacher

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Walk, sit, stand, and kneel for extended periods of time
  • Ability to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs, which may include program participants
  • Ability to work a 40-hour week with irregular work hours, including afterschool (2:30-6:30pm), as well as some evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate in English, written and oral
  • Ability to travel for work-related duties in personal vehicle
