Wind Farm Technician Lead

Purpose of the position: The Wind Farm Technician Lead is responsible for assisting with the overall commercial operation of the generating facility, and serving as a supervisor backup to the Site Supervisor. This Role is responsible for coordinating with the Site Supervisor to schedule staff to perform a variety of work including scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, training, and safety exercises. This job also maintains accountability and readiness of plant tools, equipment, and vehicles; provides technical guidance to the O&M team; schedules, tracks, and maintains records of service activities both scheduled and unscheduled; and helps maintain the work ethic and culture of the plant O&M team. The duties for this job take priority over technician duties, but do not entirely exclude those duties. The Wind Farm Technician Lead supports the overall operations and maintenance of one or more wind farms and all related facilities to assure safety and maximize availability in accordance with the Operations mission

Essential Functions:

  • Assure that all operation and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and
  • procedures established for the wind farm site. This includes wearing essential safety equipment, including a personal fall
  • arrest system, as well as identifying potential hazards on the job.
  • Pass physical fitness tests required to maintain Global Wind Organization Certification.
  • Become familiar with limited managerial activities with oversight and guidance from the Site Supervisor and Human
  • Resources in preparation of providing back-up to the Site Supervisor.
  • Perform interim back-up duties, as needed, when Site Supervisor is on leave or unavailable.
  • With appropriate training and oversight, conduct performance evaluations.
  • With appropriate training and guidance, partner with the Site Supervisor and/or HRBP to perform employee disciplinary
  • actions such as verbal counseling or write ups. Investigations or more complex disciplinary cases will not be conducted
  • by the Wind Farm Technician Leader.
  • Assist with interviewing candidates and working with HR during the offer and onboarding process.
  • Train, gain access, and perform duties utilizing software tools such as Replicon, SuccessFactors, Bluepoint, and SAP.
  • Climb wind towers on a routine basis, and access wind turbines to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Lift, carry, and transport essential equipment, tools, and materials to job site.
  • Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Lead and/or conduct acceptance and performance tests on systems and equipment following planned maintenance or outages.
  • Train and guide less experienced operations and maintenance site personnel.
  • Perform safety and other wind farm related tasks when assigned and fill in as back up to personnel at other RWE Renewables sites
  • when necessary.
  • Lead and/or perform turbine maintenance including services, major component work and replacement, software
  • updates and troubleshooting.
  • Lead and/or perform Balance of Plant procedures as needed, including substation and collection system maintenance.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report on weekly energy availability.
  • Vendor Management responsibilities .
  • Inventory Management - approving changes to parts and quantities.
  • Approve and coordinate IT requests for tech equipment, SharePoint access and other IT needs.
  • Interface with engineering to make site technical decisions.

Work Experience Requirement

  • Nordex experience preferred.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in operations and/or maintenance in power generation, transmission and/or distribution.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory, leadership or crew-lead capacity. SUBSTITUTION CLAUSE: A 2 year or 4 year college degree from an accredited school, other than correspondence or on-line, in a technical hard science (engineering, physics, power, or closely similar) may substitute for 2 years of experience. A current journeyman or master electrician license may substitute for 2 years of experience. A wind technician certificate program can substitute for 1 year of experience.

Education Requirements

  • Associate degree in Sciences or related field from an accredited school preferred.
