Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. Position Summary
The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands is hiring a Wildlife Biologist to support the Conservation Law Enforcement Officers, Recreation, and Nuisance Wildlife Programs on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska.

In October 2010, the Air Force’s Elmendorf Air Force Base and the Army’s Fort Richardson joined to become Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). The installation is over 70,000 acres, stretching from northern Anchorage to Palmer, Alaska. JBER is located near Anchorage, Alaska, which has a population of nearly 300,000. Required Job Qualifications
  • BS or BA degree in natural resource management, wildlife biology, recreational management or closely related field.
  • Candidate should have a strong background in databases and website management
  • Experience with vegetation and habitat monitoring.
  • Experience with public outreach / customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience with wildlife management in Alaska
  • Experience in data entry, management, and analysis on desktop computers.
  • Experience using ArcGIS to build maps and analyze spatial data
  • Experience working with federal and state agencies
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather and rugged terrain. Must be able to carry 50 lbs.
  • Experience with installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and using remote game cameras.
  • Experience using a handheld GPS unit.
