Welder / Fabricator

The primary responsibility of the Welder is to weld metal components together with brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, motors, and generators. In this position your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Pass hands on documented welding procedure.
  • Creating parts for products and facility use.
  • Reading assembly instructions.
  • Reviewing drawings and blueprints.
  • Collaborating with supervisors on special projects.
  • Testing products.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operate company equipment (i.e.: Forklift, Crane, hand tools etc.) in a safe and efficient manner in the performance of all duties as required.
  • Comply with all company policies / procedures and perform all job functions in an ethical manner.
  • Complete all required safety training.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area free of hazards as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Requirements

  • Must pass all required pre-employment screenings – Background, MVR, Physical, and Drug screen
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be able to comply with all drug and alcohol policies of Houma Armature Works and/or customer sponsored programs. Subject to random Drug and Alcohol screenings.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends, if required
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, in-house/offsite
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification required
  • Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced welding / fabricating knowledge
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interface with co-workers and customers
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision
