Lake Lotawana Association, Inc. is now accepting Applications to fill the Position of part-time/full time Water Patrol Manager.

Recruitment efforts for this position will be maintained until the position is filled.

Position Summary

Promote a safe boating and lake environment by enforcing Association Rules and directives.

Candidates should expect to work either part-time or full time, after discussion and agreement by the Association of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Oversee boating, swimming and all other water activities on the lake, understanding that the patrol staff cannot be everywhere all the time.
  • Manage part-time staff and interns to help patrol the lake at such times and dates as directed by the Executive Director of the Association.
  • Operate and oversee the operation by others of Association patrol watercraft.
  • Develop and maintain respective and cooperative working relationships with membership and office personnel.
  • Learn Rules and requirements of Lake Lotawana Association, Inc. in order to maintain a safe and compliant lake environment.
  • Be able to work a schedule, as well as schedule others, which includes patrolling the lake on the weekend and weekday shifts primarily between the dates of April 15thto October 1st.
  • Complete written reports for all hours worked by water patrol personnel and infractions written in the course of the duties and responsibilities of this position and that of water patrol staff.
  • Interact in a positive manner with the public, as well as the membership, their families and invited guests, to include the possible de-escalation of angry individuals.
  • Train staff on safety, operational requirements and Association processes for enforcement of its Rules and requirements.
  • Complete other duties that may be required of you by the Association Executive Director or President.

Minimum Qualifications – Training and Experience Required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diplomas or equivalent,
  • Must be 25 years or older, and
  • Must be proficient in the operation of an outboard motorboat.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First responder certification or CPR certified (not required).
  • Be a proven high performer and self-starter.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must possess a valid Missouri, Kansas or other State driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete a background check.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Physical Demands and Working Conditions Required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to physically operate equipment such as a motor boat or other similar vessel.
  • Must be able to perform heavy physically demanding work in a variety of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, precipitation. May involve lifting or carrying of moderately heavy objects or persons. Must be able to life 60 pounds (weight of buoys and anchors).

Communication Skills:

  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with other staff, employees, members and their families and guests, and the public.

Environmental Adaptability:

  • This job requires extensive time spent outdoors. Will be exposed to various elements of the weather, including heat, cold and inclement weather.
  • Possible confrontation with membership, their families and guests, as well as the public.

Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Generally oversee the safety of lake use by members and their guests, understanding that the patrol staff cannot be everywhere all the time.
  • Maintain and collect daily report sheets/infractions from water patrol staff.
  • Oversee daily maintenance of patrol watercraft.
  • Schedule hours for patrol staff and review daily report sheets and payroll.
  • Train patrol staff regarding all duties required of their positions.
  • Maintain relationships with City of Lake Lotawana Police, South Jackson County Fire Department, water rescue and Sheriff’s departments.
  • Recruit and schedule patrol interns and employees for required work duties.
  • Maintain appropriate equipment and oversee uniforms for patrol personnel.
  • Oversee proper renewals and licensing/decals for boats, docks and other required water personal property.
  • Draft reports of boating accidents and forward to Association office and if necessary, to City of Lake Lotawana Police Department.
  • Attend Enforcement Board meetings when requested, as well as City proceedings as necessary.
  • Generally, oversee placement of no wake buoys and proper placement/use of members’ individual buoys.
  • When possible, assist members when requested while they are on the lake.
  • Maintain water patrol office, including supplying interns and employees with water and other necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Generally, enforce rules and regulations regarding users of the lake, as well as complaints from members.
  • Retrieve free floating personal property on the lake and notify members where possible.
  • When on duty, attend to phone calls from members and public related to the lake.
  • Check decibels of watercraft if a question of its rule violation is made or suspected.
  • Address removal of trespassers on the lake and common areas of Lake Association.
