General Definition of Work

Performs work operating wastewater treatment plant, conducting laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with state and federal rules and regulations, maintaining wastewater treatment plant, grounds, and vehicles, maintaining and operating generators, lift stations, and other heavy equipment, creating reports, maintaining records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the direction of the Public Works Director/Engineer.

Divisional supervision exercised over personnel within the division.

Essential Functions

• Operates wastewater treatment plant; utilizes various pumps, air flow equipment, and machinery.
• Conducts laboratory tests; uses lab equipment and chemicals to perform, state, federal, and operational test.
• Assigns and participates in general maintenance, including building, grounds, machinery, and vehicles.
• Operates heavy equipment operations.
• Prepares and files state and federal reports, and other documents, including budgets and requisitions; creates power point presentation; prepares correspondence; codes bills; prepares timesheets.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Ensures the Ultraviolet Disinfection Equipment stays in MDNR compliance.
• Recruits and selects department personnel; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of staff; rewards, disciplines, coaches, counsels, and evaluates staff performance; develops staff schedules; transfers, promotes, demotes, and suspends as necessary; recommends terminations as necessary; ensures deadlines for the department are met; develops and achieves high performance and strategic objects for the department; supervises daily operations.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and six or more years of experience in a wastewater facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

• Possession of a Wastewater Operators License (B) through the Missouri Department Natural Resources (MDNR) upon hire.
• Complete Security Awareness Training for Computers through the City of Harrisonville Information Technology Department within six months of hire.
• Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position.
• May require possession of, or ability to obtain, specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.
• A valid commercial driver's license Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsements in the State of Missouri upon hire.

Pay range from $27.86 per hour up to $39.01 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
