Position Summary:

Provide instructional services to students under general supervision of a certified teacher. Requires working on a 1 to 1 basis with a student or with multiple students at a time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Discuss daily with the classroom teacher regarding the progress of the educational programs. 2.5%

Implement and collect data on each student’s IEP goals and behavior management plan in conjunction with the classroom teacher and clinical team. 50%.

Aid in development of educational material. 2.5%

Responsible for developing job opportunities and conducting site visits to potential job sites within the community. 10%

Bring outside job sampling activities to the program. 10%

Collaborate with the classroom teachers to develop vocational goals. 5%

Assist students with performing jobs within the community and with community trips. 10%

Conduct observation of students in vocational/recreation settings. 10%

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Administer Eden II School Curriculum Assessment

Attend Eden II School in-services, training, and staff meetings as required.

May be required to maintain classroom schedules and programming in the absence of the teacher. Assist students, as needed during activities of daily living/gym activities. (Can vary depending on student’s specific needs)

Lead or assist in various group activities.

Assist in orientation of new staff/substitutes.

Transport students and job coaches to community job sites.

Create and update resumes for students.

Develop and maintain vocational binder and update potential job contact list.

Provide families with updates on community, vocational, and recreational goals.

Attend parent teacher conferences usually twice per year.

Must become certified in SCIP method.

Education, Examination, and Experience

• High School Diploma and must have passed the New York State assessment of teaching assistant skills.
• Candidate must also have completed a total of 18 credits towards meeting the requirements of an associate or baccalaureate degree.
• Candidate must show evidence of satisfactory employment as a teaching assistant for one school year under a level I or level II teaching assistant certificate or under a temporary license authorizing employment as a teaching assistant.

• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
• Knowledge of classroom management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Training/ Certification Requirements

Must pass the New York State assessment of teaching assistant level I test within one (1) year of employment or their position will be terminated.

In order to obtain your teaching assistant certification you must acquire school violence/child abuse certification showing completion of workshops.

Physical Demands:

• Position may include standing or sitting for periods of time.
• This position is accountable for escorting the students to and from the bus.
• Use of crisis management strategies maybe be required in the context of implementing behavior reduction plans.
• This position may require assistance in ADL including toilet training.

This position does require driving or transporting consumers

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $18.10 per hour
