POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Visitor Services Assistant- Museum Store

DEPARTMENT: Visitor Services

SUPERVISOR: Museum Store Manager

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time/Non-exempt, up to 28 hours. This is a non-benefited position.

SALARY RANGE: $18.75/hr.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The Crocker Art Museum has a special place in the community and holds true when people come to visit our institution. The Crocker brings people together and connects them in unexpected ways with art, ideas, each other, and the world around them. This position is crucial to upholding these ideals and helping them to flourish.

Under the supervision of the Museum Store Manager, the Museum Store Associate is responsible for providing a high level of customer service while; completing sales transactions, maintaining a well-stocked, organized, and attractive sales floor; assisting customers with purchases and sell memberships—while representing the Museum in a positive, friendly, and knowledgeable manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Always maintain a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide exceptional and authentic customer service.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge to assist customers in selections and promote sales.
  • Demonstrate Museum knowledge regarding current events and exhibits.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Museum policies, communicate them to visitors, and enforce policies in all areas of the Museum.
  • Conduct and process sales transactions with speed, efficiency, and accuracy on point-of-sale system.
  • Participate in maintaining an orderly and attractive store and stockroom.
  • Open/close Museum Store and count drawer.
  • Balance cash drawer at the end of the day.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the store operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate issues effecting customer experience to Museum Store Manager.
  • Commit to reaching sales goals as outlined by the Museum Store Manager.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in operations in order to enhance the retail experience for both customers and fellow team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years retail experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others and across departments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with members, visitors, volunteers, vendors, etc.
  • Intellectual curiosity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite/
  • Proficiency with POS 9point-of sale) systems.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of inventory practices and inventory control.

  • Support Museum’s mission, goals, and objectives and institutional DEAI initiatives.
  • Commit to a positive organizational culture based on mutual respect, cooperation, and openness to other’s perspectives.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness when dealing with financial tasks.
  • Take care to use Crocker resources responsibly.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk; sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must have dexterity required to access remote spaces (roof, crawl spaces, etc.) as well as ability to lift and move items of various weights and sizes. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
