The Associated Press seeks a talented newsroom leader to work as a news editor for video in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will oversee the video report and video journalists who work in Washington, leading a team that is dedicated to crafting a video news report that is rich in exclusive spot news, compelling live video and distinct, deeply reported enterprise. You will work closely with text reporters and photojournalists, at times directing all-formats coverage, to serve AP's wide-ranging set of customers across the globe. You’ll search for new and unique ways to promote the best of AP’s video on social platforms, and you will lead discussions about how to best optimize video presentation on AP’s curated content distribution platforms and when to promote video-driven storytelling.

We’re looking for someone who will:
work among a team of journalists, reporters and editors to deliver video stories that break news, have impact and are exclusive to AP. interact with AP’s customer desk and planning editors to ensure up-to-date information about AP’s video report in available to customers in real time.
have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate visual stories that people will want to share on social media and other platforms.
pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications: This video news editor must have demonstrated excellence as a video journalist and/or field video producer, with a deep record of creating and/or guiding exclusive and distinctive video to publication. You should have proven technical skills in television and online video production, including knowledge of live video operations and satellite, fiber and FTP transmission, as well as editing non-linear videos, preferably with Adobe Premiere. You must be comfortable collaborating across media formats with reporters, photographers, video journalists, producers and editors to identify opportunities for visual-focused storytelling and unique social promotion. You must be able to work swiftly and accurately under tight deadlines, and help others to do so, while also planning and completing longer-term projects. Applicants should have at least five years of full-time experience as a video journalist or video producer at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.

Other qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
All applicants must be able to work in the U.S. or be able to gain permission to do so.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
Advanced-level professional competency in video shooting and non-linear editing, preferably with Adobe Premiere.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and planning skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.
