The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities - Customer Service Field Division is seeking a qualified candidates to fill a Utilities Tech Services Specialist position. The selected candidate will be responsible for scheduling and distributing work assignments, monitoring workload process and travel time for field operation resources, dispatching appropriate field units emergency and non-emergency calls.


Available Shifts are 4pm - 12am and 12am - 8am

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Planning, scheduling and implementing facility outages, shutdowns and start-ups to maintain system pressure and volume;
  • Monitoring and responding to system alarms and insuring affected internal parties are notified to make the appropriate operational changes and/or schedule repairs;
  • Coordinating with scheduling personnel to manage flow restrictions and imbalances;
  • Making decisions regarding gas rerouting during emergencies and the impact of weather forecasts on the system.
The selected candidate must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Available Shifts are 4pm - 12am and 12am - 8am


Incumbents serves as an Essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel and Outlook; natural gas regulators and measuring equipment, terms and measurements (e.g. PSI, BTU's, Dekatherms); and mathematics. Demonstrated skill in scheduling, providing excellent customer service; oral and written communication; and using standard office equipment such as multi-line phones, printers and computers. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize work, problem solve, make decisions, to work independently, and to follow procedures.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Two years of experience;
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • May require a valid Driver's License or a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years of experience in Natural Gas Distribution systems or Control room environment;
  • Experience using SCADA;
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
